"The Stranger in Me"

a story about post natal depression, a breakdown of a marriage and some very kind health professionals.

Some scenes were very difficult to watch, but thankfully this is NOT a Hollywood film whew it would have been far more dramatic and sensationalised

4/5

Hadn't seen it in years, and it's still a poor movie, despite myself still really wanting to like it. It's so slow, with very dull, stilted dialogue and a plot thats almost inpossible to follow fully. I can see why Ridley Scott turned it down. Even the direction and production design was average, despite the big names attached to them. The film looks so murky and even jerky. Maybe a blu ray would clean that up though?

I can forgive some of the special effects, but some are atrocious for it's age. Some decent supporting actors aswell as a risable Kyle Maclachlan but that cannot save this ambitious but oh so dissapointing sludge. For a 70mm film it looks awful (as I already mentioned), and only a few scenes are worthy of any attension. Talk about a missed opputunity....

Movie posters are known for being abit misleading (and differentt for different territories), but the one I happened to post I just noticed really tries to sell the romance angle. Theres about 2 minutes of romance, if that! Completely misleading. Still, Sting does get half naked though, so the ladies and gay men should dig that bit. But otherwise this film has pretty much no romance or even implications or talk of it.

Oh, I just watched 1953's "The big heat" a few days ago. Great film noir with some of the best dialogue in terms of comebacks and "bad guy talk". Directed by the legendary Fritz lang, though it's not half as dark as say "Metropolis" or "M", which are films he is more famous for.

Glenn Ford is great, as are prety much all the cast actually.

Don't mess with detective Banion LOL. Boy is tough!

David Lynch's movies are waaaaaaaay far from the one-deminsional films that get billed as "romantic film".

There's so much to Dune than what meet they eyes, if you're a David Lynch fan, you'll know right off that every detail is deliberate and has a reason behind it - whether it was used to serve the story or not.

I think generally speaking, David Lynch's movies need patience.

I dig some of his work. "Eraserhead" "Elephant man" (particually this one, though it is so sad)" "Mulholland drive" even "Blue velvet" (Maclachlan again) which is hard to stomach in places, but "Dune" is just quite bad plain and simple.

And whilst certain elements are interesting (the floating Baron, which never explains why he floats like the book does, not that that in itself is a major problem when compared to the confusing plot in general). But iam not surprised even Lynch himself has since disowned the film. The pacing and dialogue are just plain bad. It drags in alot of places and is often hard to follow and not in a surrealist way but in a just plain bad narrative way. The book is very complex and political and the movie fails on so many things. Even basic things like plot and pacing.

It can't decide if it wants to be a serious sci fi film (like the book) or a blockbuster action film ala Mad Max. Iam sure David's hands were tied but someone like Terry Gilliam or Ridney Scott would of done it more justice I feel. Iam sure Lynch's diehards at IMDB love this film and thats fair enough, but I can see why critics thought it was garbage. I don't hate it, but just don't like it much either.

I saw a review of this in today's paper - the reviewer was sorta luke-warm on the film, but his description made it sound like just my kind of movie.

In theaters: Blue Valentine: B Good film, the 'You and Me' song is haunting now after watching it, tho. Michelle Williams's performance was great. Ryan Gosling's character was annoying. lol I wasn't feeling his beard and glasses, but that's beside the point. lol I grew up watching him on the Mickey Mouse Club.

At home:

Smiley Face: B+ I want to see Araki's new film now after watching it. Anna Farris is hilarious. I tried to hold back from laughing cuz i was watching it with others, but secretly i wanted to just explode laughing. Some scenes had me busting out laughing, I had to rewind some scenes just to laugh over and over again.

I was absolutely pleasantly surprised with that film, I didn't expect it to be that heavy at all. excellent acting & I liked the attention to the littlest details in that couple's life.

"what's that book where they're all behind the wardrobe?"

I can understand being lukewarm about it. It's pretty strange. Even though I haven't seen it in several years, it reminded me a lot of The Cement Garden which I know you love. I was thinking of orgnoting you specifically about this film, but here you turn up!

I really liked the way it built up simultaneously towards their happiest and saddest moments (wedding and separation). Also, the end revealed the circumstances under which they got married and why to me it didn't last ultimately. sad

i watched this tonight. another woody flick, not his best, but still a decent flick. it's all about relationships between younger women and older/middle aged men. i have no idea what might have influenced woody in writing this, as he usually makes characters based on some form of his own life. he should have had grandads going out with teenagers instead

it's a pretty good movie, miles better than i expected. it's actually more about drugs salesmen in the 90s than a sex/romance flick. it's got a few laughs in it too. anne hathaway is pretty hot and you see most of her bits, which makes the giant HD plasma and bluray player worth every penny

It was definitely interesting and very well done and acted. There just wasn't enough to the film to satisfy me...perhaps if it had ended a bit differently. I might even give it a 2 1/2 out of 5.

it's a weird and sometimes uncomfortable watch, it's supposed to be a dark comedy, but there aren't many laughts in it and it's hard to tell what bits were supposed to be funny in the first place. and it just kinda goes on and on and then ends, and it's a short flick lengthwise, but seems longer. there isn't much music in the film, and what there is is just mostly atmospheric soundscapes, not any of the music that most people expect from the The
