Your prom experience...& do you recommend me going?

Since some of you have (probably) been through the whole prom extravaganza before, I want to know what you thought of it. I keep thinking that the hype is totally overrated loser but I also keep thinking that I'm going to miss out on the only highlight of my senior year besides graduating. The senior prom isn't until March but I have to make up my mind before February whether I want to actually go trough with buying a dress and doing all that "prom stuff". Anyways the point of this thread is to hear your stories if you have any that will convince me that prom is something I'd want to go to or forget about.

-and I know my experience will be "totally different" and it's "up to me to make the best of it" but I STILL want to hear your stories beg

Never go with a date.

You'll have more fun that way.

Wear a dress you can dance in and wear heels that look good.

Spend lots of money on proper underwear and spank PLEASE! No flabby muffin pics, you need a SMOOTH look in your gown. No belly lumps or bra/panty lines.

Stay away from shiny fabrics and choose a dress for its construction as well as style that suits your personality.

Don't take too many pictures of your backside.... TACKY! No hand on hip pics either, get candid shots of you doing things fun and get pics of you being made up n stuff. FUN!

Always take enough money for a cab fare home. heart

Now make some memories!

Don't worry... if I do go:

-I won't have a date because boys are too afraid to approach me lol

- I already decide on a short loose dress

-I have to worry more on my ribs showing than my "muffin" wink

- My backside isn't very pleasant and I don't have hands..just kiddin lol

You should go!

I never got to go to a prom and when I saw my to younger cousins {who are sisters} go to their prom last summer I kinda felt jealous! lol I was proud and happy for them though, that they were able to make memories and it just let them know that they were fucking DONE with highschool...ya heard me! lol

You should go because it truly is a once in a lifetime experience. Enjoy the company of your friends and classmates, listen to some tunes (pray they are good) and enjoy some good food.

You don't NEED to go all out with the crazy expensive clothes, it'll help alleviate some of that stress.

I was lucky to be invited to 3 proms in addition to my own... two were WACK and the others were awesome...

I wouldnt say its overrated but its no different than any other formal dance that you've been to. You have to go though...it'll bug you years from now if you dont.

Mine sucked. Long story, but I got in an argument with my sweetie two days before prom. Left her ass at home (she was a junior anyway) and took someone else. Was miserable the entire time...but I was voted prom king, only I didnt find out until a week later due to some ASB shenanigans revolving around the chick I left at home.

Had a blast at the next years prom though...when I took the girl I left at home to her prom.

If it sounds interesting to you, then you should go. You'll never get another chance, unless you start dating a high school student at some point in the future. lol But if it doesn't seem like your thing, I don't think you should feel obligated to participate in the "it's what you're supposed to do" pressure of it all, either. I agree with paintedlady about just going to dance and have a good time, though.

Not at all overrated (don't believe the "hype" razz ) if you have fun friends to go with. I LOVED my proms. Sang at both my Junior and Senior proms. Great memories. Wouldn't change it for anything. mushy

Oh, and my experience was that I was on independent study, so I didn't have one. I don't have reunions, either. For me, considering my general love of the human race, I don't regret not having either.

Going to grad is fun. Dancing, food, fun with people you may never see again, ever!

I remember my Grad. The only thing was the next day when we all came back to school we found out one of our friends got killed. sad He may of drank a bit too much for driving.

Well, in my own defense, it's not like I haven't seen pics of you in drag, singing. And 'That's What Friends Are For' definitely lives on the same block as 'Wind Beneath My Wings'. lol Looks like you had a great time. The shiny blue tux.. umm... you know I loves ya, though. lol The first blonde girl is really cute in a pasty white face and 80s hair kinda way. nod Is she the same girl with the perm in the last pic? I don't think it is, but it could be.
