Give me ur PARTY ideas :)

We are going to have our housewarming party in the Spring. I don't want a boring old traditional one. I want a DJ etc... Please tell me what makes or breaks a party for you and give me some ideas.

I collect glassware and antique pottery and I plan on using it. I don't like paper plates and all that. I want it to be nice smile

P.S. If any of you are going to be in the Bay Area in Spring org note me your info so I can properly invite you smile

When I have parties, I put all my Star Wars glasses in the dishwasher so nobody breaks them. Remember, no matter how nice your friends are, they don't care about your shit nearly as much as you do.

It's going to be raging, I live in the Bay Area!

I've got the outline. I want it to be dressy. Girls like to dress-up. Especially my Prince girls (u know who u r). And I don't like to drink wine out of plastic! Bobby is hopefully going to get me a good Prince DJ.

So there u have it. Now what else?

These party tips come from the fabulous endorphin74, who throws the best parties this side of the Mississippi.

If there are more than 20 people, I suggest name tags. I know it sounds tacky, but it always, always gets people talking to one another. At some point in the night, someone will inevetiably decide it time to start switching everyone's name tags around, and now you've got everyone engaged with each other.

Have your music pre-selected and kept out of the way of other party-goers. Music is an important, important element. There's nothing worse than someone with awful taste pulling out the wrong music at the wrong moment. It can ruin the momentum of the party for hours.

Jello shots. Preferably cut into squares and passed around on a platter. These are fun to bring around as a host, cause you can talk to everyone in the entire room in a matter of minutes, and gives a good "in" to talk to the poeple you don't know. Even at a fancy-schmancy party, they will make people laugh, if nothing else, and after a few, everyone's loosened up.

A theme of some sort. People love to dress up, and/or it goes a long way to create an easy, fun atmosphere. My friends once threw a "homecoming" party, which I thought was hysterical! Boys came in suits and girls dressed in semi-formals. They even crowned a homecoming king and queen at one point at the party.

Never leave invitations lying around a nearby club or bar. Unless you want the party filled with drunks and freaks you don't know. And that can sometimes be fun too, but scary. (I once had a friend invite nearly the entire bar he was at back to a party I was hosting. They all showed up. It ended up fun, but it can be nerve-racking watching dozens of people you don't know walk around your house...)

Lock up all valuables and breakables. If it's any kind of party, these things will get broken. Its a rule. Using glass wine/cocktail glasses will be fine, but realize, they will not all survive the evening.

I suggest a "Murder Mystery" party. Everyone plays a role and throughout the night clues are given and everyone has to act their part. There are some sites on the net about how to pull one of these things off. I am planning a "Stock the Bar" party with a "Murder Mystery" party. A good housewarming party integrates the gifts in with the theme of the party. Think of what kind of gifts you need and then build your theme around that.

I just may show up so send and invite this way.
