Biracial?? +/-

Mot of you understnad the concept of biracialness. A person's arent is of one race and the other is from another. There's also multiracial when there's 3 or more. But not everybody's 50/50. Ome are of different mixture. ome's arents are biracial.

SO I'm asking if you are 75% a certain race and 25% something else are you by definition bi or multiracial? I wanna know where the biracial line starts.

Working up a purple sweat.

I think biracial is 2 races, meaning you have 2 races in you....one parent is 1 race and the other parent is another race. When it comes to 75% and 25%, good question. There used to be a word used for folks like this, but it eludes me.

Like Halle Berry's daughter...I'm guessing people still call her biracial, even though she is 75% white. And Mariah Carey's twins will probably still be considered biracial, even though they will be 75% black. I notice alot of time when they are 75% black, then they are just called black. But when 75% white, they are called biracial or white, depending on how they look. And whatever babies who's parents are biracial, like Zoe Kravitz? I"m guessing she would is still considered biracial since she is 50% white/0% Black.

Multiracial is when their is more than 2 races present. Sadly alot of people only acknowledge 1 maybe 2 races though. Very rarely do I hear multiracial used. Like my nieces are 50% white, 25% black, 25% latin, but no one ever calls them multiracial, they completely ignore the latin side of them.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I try to make sure my daughter is aware of what all she's made up of. I don't know that genes divide into clean percentages based on the parents ethnicity. But for simplicty's sake, my daughter is half Hispanic, 1/4 Black, 1/4 White.

I would call her multiracial. I consider myself biracial.

As far as I know my son is 25% Alifoeroe, 25% decendant from Ambon (so 50% Asian) and 50% Dutch (although rumours in my family goes that my mother has French connections lol)

Latino/hispanic is not a race, it's a culture. Latinos are multiracial....
And trying to breakdown a person ethnicities into percentages is just retarded. Especially if you are African American or Latino because many of us do not know and can never know our total ethnic contributions.

In fact a lot of people walking around like they just know they daddy is their daddy *side-eye* would get their feelings hurt on Maury if there was a DNA test.

How about getting over race and percentages and just be human beings?

I agree with you on the above and it was not so smart of me to put it like that in my post.

You were just following the tone of the thread.

It's just not something that I subscribe to, probably because I'm adopted and have no clue which one of those bitches out there is my daddy. I can say I have African, European, and Native American in my DNA, but is it really relevant. Life goes on without me knowing the answer for sure. The world perceives me as Black, whatever.

Actually not breaking it into percentages is retarded. You know people get mad at you if you say you are black-mixed and not black. It's stuid buting o or more races in 1 doesn' make you one race. SO Peutro Ricans aren't black and neiher are creoles black. Some people try turn you into a black person trying to be white when really you are.....artially. It's even worse if you'v got more black in you so if your dad's biracial they'l get mad even if you aknowledge your nonblack part. For instance Tiger Woods didn't say he was white, he just said he wasn't all black. Asian is his other race infact

Then there's the DNA. yes you can get DNA tests. There's paernity tests like on Maury and they've got one that can tell you your exact racial makeup. They even got one that can go back thousands of years.

Working up a purple sweat.

PUERTO RICANS AREN"T BLACK????? GTFOH!!! Have you ever been to that damn island? whofarted

You don't know what the hell you're talking about. I AM Puerto Rican and people OUTSIDE of my culture ask me if I am black ALL the time, especially other Hispanics and Latinos. Please don't speak for Puerto Ricans if you are not 100% like me.

FYI Puerto Ricans are mostly Taino and African mix (with some Spaniard because they took rule of the island and brought the Spanish language and Catholicism)... we are like next to islands like DR/Haiti and Jamaica. THOSE people must NOT be "black" either. lol

Puerto Ricans are black.... NOT African American. African Americans are black too and posses maybe less of the actual African make-up than people from the islands as a whole believe it or not.

Jesus Lord keep me from cussing up a storm in here, pray people know so little about my culture, its fucking ridiculous!

*raised eyebrow*

a DNA test should be the only time you hear percentages...

And I am not the one to care about what other think or say in regards to race, and most well educated people don't either. Racial typing is ignorant and obviously detrimental to society, people who should be more concerned with other things.

nod I will say this, many Hispanics hate being called black since many are colorstruck living in lies told to them from generations past originating from plantation owners. My family included.

I do think my people are quite beautiful since we are so blended racially. I love seeing new born babies born from people birthed from mutli-racial cultures just to see how the babies turn out. Its exciting to see a new baby since its so unpredictable.

Heck one of my children was born with ginger hair (its DK brown now... but we were like eek )

yeahthat As a black Latina MYSELF it's irritating how many ignorant muhhfuckas truly do not know that a LARGE percentage of hispanics/latinos have African ancestry. Outside of Mexico, I'd guess MOST Central American, South American, and Caribbean latinos got African in 'em due to the slave trade. Really, some folks should shut the fuck up or read a gatdamn book.

Thank you. People should do their research before they open their mouths. According to AncestrybyDNA.com, Puerto-Ricans have @30+ % African ancestry, with Dominicans & Cubans not far behind. But many latinos will fight you if you say that. Colonialism/brainwashing is a mfer.

My breakdown was @64% African, 18% European, 14% Indigenous American and 5% Asian. The tests are very reliable - they were featured on a PBS special hosted by Prof. Gates.

Origin and lineage matter a lot, to a lot of people. Knowing about your past MAY help you know more about yourself and to some that is very important. I don't necessarilly think that makes you less of a human, and it shouldn't affect the way you look at others. Although Bklyn is right in saying a lot of people will never truly know, there are still pieces and parts that can be explained, understood, etc.

The concept of race is empty... and soooooo passé!!!

Science has proved a long time ago that such a thing as "race" doesn't exist when you observe genes.

There can be more similarities between a Chinese and a Brazilian than between two people who live in the same neighbourhood and look alike.

Looks are only a insignificant part of the genetical material that makes a human being.

Come on.... how is it possible that people still talk in terms of races? disbelief

I think (just my opinion) that some of the people in this thread need to look past what is being discussed as just being about "race". Ancestral lineage means more to some people than just "race". It can tell you quite a lot about where you and your family have come from, what you've lived through and why you are the way you are. Defining yourself as a person goes many layers of deep and to some people this IS a very important part of that process.

both of my parents are mutts.... I always wanted to get a tat of the flags of all the nations/regions I know (so far) that brought about me.. but I have like zero tolerance for pain.. neutral lol

-- or design my own flag wink

and, sure, it'd probably only apply to my 4 sibs and I lol but...

if I got the complex tat, it would be the African continent, surrounded somehow by/in line with the flags for:

Eastern Band Cherokee, U.S., Spain, U.K., Italy, and Germany
