39 Degrees North by Neil Gaiman I know it's late, but I just saw it right now. Plus, I just love this man like I've loved very few people so I wanted to share this. His writing speaks to my soul, and this short video adaption of his poem is great.
Merry Christmas

I will read anything and everything by him. I even love reading his blog, though I don’t follow it religiously. I agree, about him being incredibly gifted and about simply the way he puts words together making me immeasurably happy.
It’s ridiculous to me that I’ve never met him. He lives in Minnesota, for gosh sakes. I shop at Dreamhaven, where he drops off all kinds of goodies and signed copies of things and they published an early one of his collections and so on. I actually try to stay out of there as the few times I go I end up spending far too much money on stuff.
I’m nowhere near a complete-ist as far as collecting things goes, but with his stuff I would only need the slightest nudge and I could go totally overboard.
I should keep my eye open for readings and signings more often. Perhaps someday. sigh… |

In an unplanned reverse order...
His readings are wonderful if you love his words (or his voice). Since I know you love them (his words) I couldn't possibly recommend catching one (a reading) enough. It's especially great when he unexpectedly reads one of your favorite passages or short stories. He usually (always?) does signings after (in fact he seems to sign pretty much any time he's seen in public and asked to do so), but (to me) they don't have the same vibe of the plain ol' scheduled signings. Admittedly, that may just be because I love the reading part so much.
The scheduled signings can be marathons (which I should have included in the longest I've ever waited in line thread, but these are pleasurable, which is probably why I forgot about them), but he always stays until all the people have had their books and comics signed, smiling from behind his dark glasses the entire time. All parties involved are generally happier to see one of your items be the one that is currently being promoted, though.
I'm somewhat of a ridiculous completist when it comes to anything thats been printed (as well as the statues and busts). Overboard disappeared long, long ago. It's probably better if I don't say any more about that.
So jealous that you can actually walk into Dreamhaven. Prince? I have never considered moving to Minnesota for Prince. Dreamhaven? Maybe! I've purchased a few of the things he's "dropped off there", missed a few as well. I figure that's just the way it's supposed to be.
I was catching up on his blog (which I only do a few times a month) in between writing my last post here and returning to find your response. He got a lamppost to put out in the woods for Christmas.
