Anyone have a home alarm system? We got one put in at the new house (they installed yesterday). At the old house we didn't have one but there were stickers on all the windows, which I liked having. I was just gonna get stickers off ebay (I did) but the sales dudes were pretty good and we ended up biting
My main concern with this is getting our roomie to not set it off constantly. We even gave him the keychain with the button so that he wouln't have to remember a code.
At 4:30am this morning I was disarming the fuckin thing because he set it off when he left for work.
We only have like another day and a half to figure out if we want to keep it. I hate to pay a monthly bill for 3 years (we got a good deal tho) if it's something we're gonna end up turning off all the time.

Yeah, I've always had one. Ever since about 1975, or earlier. I'd feel weird living in a house without one.

We've never had one (and don't feel unsafe here at all). I guess you get into the swing of setting it and such eventually.

I have one but in the long run, u might be better off investing that monthly bill into a higher insurance amount in case thieves walk off with your property.

I have ADT...
My friend's husband told me you shouldn't display that sign on the front lawn because "professional" thieves will know what they are working with...

I used to have ADT and then I got wise. I put the stickers on the sliders and front kitchen window. That monthly fee got to be too much. Since I have discontinued it, I haven't had one problem with thieves trying to get into my house.
Don't mean any disrespect, John, but your roomie sounds a bit "slow."

I have one as well, been dating her for the past 6 years.... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Jeez..... tell "roomie" I said to stop frakkin' around -- or he can pay if he sets the alarm off too many times. Hag. Muse. Web Goddess. Taurean. Tree Hugger. Poet. Professional Nerd. Geek.

We got it all for free (equip/installation etc and $40 month). From what I hear (2 people who have ADT) that's good.

I think he left one of the "contact" doors open when he exited today (the sliding door to the sunroom). It was well-intended since we let the dogs go out there (Bogie loves that room). I had no problem arming it when I left and then disarming when I walked back in about an hour ago.

Oh no, I'm displayin'. I got my BEWARE OF DOG signs on the fence too. I rather they know what they're workin with and know that there's a big doggie gonna be hurryin them along than them think we have no alarm system at all.

even if you don't have one, on this thread you better say you do, in case johnart's casing your joint.

Never had one and I regularly leave doors unlocked and windows open all night. Sometimes when I leave the house, too, but not very often. Since I've never had one my only comment/advice is that if it makes you feel more comfortable you should keep it. And if "roomie" runs up the false alarm charges start giving him the bill.

Oh, snap! That's a great deal. I was paying $75/month and that was 15 years ago!

Roomie set it off again 4:21 this morning.
I need to have him show me how he's exiting when he's home so I can see what he's doing wrong. Ron left the house this morning, disarmed/armed it just fine.
Luckily we're in "test" mode for 7 days.

I never had a home alarm system. Once, when I was a kid, I stole a ADT home security sign off someone's lawn and put it on my own. I did it because I found it ironic that you can STEAL a HOME SECURITY sign. I was a witty one. I do nothing professionally. I only do things for fun. johnart: Acrylic's old bras is where tits of all sizes go to frolic after they die. Tit Heaven.

You can hide anything under those tits. I'm surprise you didn't become a car burglar.
Car Owner: I could've swore I parked my car right here.
Acrylic: Nope. No car here. I've been standing here for a while now. [Edited 12/23/10 6:55am]

That statement is more accurate than you think -- you should see all the stuff I could hide in there! I do nothing professionally. I only do things for fun. johnart: Acrylic's old bras is where tits of all sizes go to frolic after they die. Tit Heaven.
