Where could I find that stuff??? Especially the desk? Never seen it in stores in Europe so far.

Here's an international link to Cassina - they feature several design masters.

http://www.cassina.it/

All of their furniture is made in Italy, so I'm sure they have contracts with selected retailers throughout Europe (note English, French, German, Italian language choices on intro).

There's a gas station in Cloquet, MN, a little town near by designed by FLW. It's space age design has the upper floor of the gas station jetting out over the bottom floor. The windows on top are slanted in such a way that it resembles a space craft. A Very Cool gas station. lol

Yeah, I found that site, but the pictures are shit.

I have a book written by Neil Levine which contains most of Wrights original plans and drawings, you should check it out if you can. It also shows many of the scrapped ideas for the Guggenheim Museum

Yeah, the pictures are horrible, but at least I know what you were talking about.

I'll have to check into that book as well. Do you know the building that I am talking about where the pillars were a problem in the beginning with the building inspectors? Where Wright had to prove that they would support the structure... I can't remember what building it was or where it was at. I want to find pictures of it.

Found it... the Johnson Wax Building. These are the pillars that posed problems for the inspectors and Wright had to build a pillar on site and prove that they would hold the weight of the structure.

Edit: "Both the Administration Building (also called the Johnson Wax Building) and the later Research Tower...are of brick and glass. The main office work space is articulated by dendriform columns capable of supporting six times the weight imposed upon them, a fact Wright had to demonstrate in order to obtain a building permit."

"The major problem that was encountered during the construction of the administration building was the innovative type of column that Wright wanted to implement for this project, the mushroom-shaped dendriform column. But this idea provoked skepticism from the Wisconsin Industrial Commission, the organization that was furnishing the building permit before construction began. Each column was supposed to support 12 tons. According to the commission, no more that 5 tons would be supported before failure.

Therefore, in order to prove that the commission was wrong, Frank Llloyd Wright had a test column set up on site. He and Johnson loaded the column with sandbags. They sucessfully loaded 24 tons of sand on the top of the test column without cracking the pillar. Convinced with the results, the commission issued the permit to go ahead with construction."

Now that isn't bothering me anymore... whew!

Wow... I love that! I haven't seen too much or read up too much on Gaudi... going to look for more of his creations now!

I love this stuff. Architects amaze me.. well, the good ones anyway. How they can take their vision and actually create a beautiful piece of art... that is SAFE!
