CDL Truck Driving: Good Idea OR Bad Idea? [img:$uid]http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0WTefiYwg9NdF0APlajzbkF/SIG=12fbila7k/EXP=1292964888/**http%3a//www.truckdriving-cdltraining.com/images/werner7l.jpg[/img:$uid]
Times are hard. The economy sucks. And I'm sick and tired of struggling financially. What do you think?
And better yet, would you make the career switch to truck driving?
I need opinions badly! |

You can make a LOT of money if you get the right route with the right company. The drivers I know LOVE it. Good luck! |

go into it with knowledge- just getting your CDL is one thing. No local company is going to hire you unless you've had at least one - two years over the road driving experience. The big companies will hire and train you over the road but contrary to their little pamphlets with the smiling families- you give them 5-6 days a week. you could be gone up to 14 days at a time. Now unless you are unattached that sucks - its hard work and your starting pay sucks compared to the hours you put in- they may tell you roughly $800 a week for 5 days on the road. What they don't tell you is that you will drive rain, sleet, or snow for 12 hours a day.......
Think long and hard before you travel that road- my hubby is a truck driver... LOVE HARD. |

why not google truck driver's web forums?
every job has goods and bads.
why not try to hit up a local expressway and hit one of the rest stops and talk to the drivers there.. |

It's definitely hard work and takes a certain type of person to do this long term. Most of the drivers I know have been doing it 10 years or longer and really enjoy it.

I almost wish I could do that.
But I get very sleepy while driving at night, sometimes in the daytime too. |
