L.A. police seek subjects of serial killer photo collection

I don't usually make posts around such upsetting things, but this might be important...

L.A. police seek public help with women's photos in Grim Sleeper case

By Michael Martinez, CNN
December 16, 2010 8:55 p.m. EST

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Los Angeles authorities expanded their investigation into the Grim Sleeper serial killer case Thursday by asking for the public's help in identifying women in 180 photographs whose images were found in the suspect's home this summer.

Police are trying to determine if there are additional killings among the more than 100 women depicted in the photos.

Last July, 57-year-old Lonnie David Franklin Jr. was arrested and charged with 10 murders and one attempted murder dating back to 1985, and Los Angeles police spent hundreds of hours sifting through thousands of photographs, Polaroids and videotape found in Franklin's house.

I couldn't sleep at 5 a.m., decided to hop onto the computer and came across this story. What an unsettling way to start my day.

What's most disturbing to me is cops can't tell whether these photo subjects are alive or dead in some shots. shake

Outside of L.A., I hadn't heard anything about this case. Has it been a big story, West Coasters?

Yes. And it'd be pretty darned jarring to see the photo of a living and currently accounted for loved one in this set, too. We're sometimes so close to death, in complete oblivion to the fact.

Yes, it's a big story here. What a relief to have this maniac off the streets but then....these photos and possibly more victims. My heart goes out to the women and their families. To grow up poor and then have to face this kind of horror. Just so sad.

TY for sharing this.. my heart breaks to see so many.

Its disturbing to see that he got many of these women to pull up their blouses and in his truck! He must have been so convincing to get so many to trust him. Some even look drugged up to the point of passing out. sad

I pray that those that are missing are found, and justice is served. rose pray

He's been reported to have been very nice, which is obvious if he's the one who was able to take most of these pictures. A true predator, able to convince these women of his sincerity. I wonder if he'll ever explain why he did this.

There is so much light in a lot of these pictures. Even in challenging times, humanity has the ability to find happiness. cry

Also, scary to see how recent some of these pictures are. That he was probably hurting women up to the point of being caught.

that was what I noticed as well. Many of them, too many of them, seemed to be unconscious or drugged. I fear that many of them are among his victims.
