The Movie "Beaches" - Yay Or Nay?

This movie gets a big "Yay" from me; I love it! It's definitely a "chick flick" about two friends who remain friends throughout the years, even when they get mad at each other. They don't speak to each other for awhile after having an argument, but eventually, they are able to patch things up. This movie reminds me soooo much of several of my friends that I have had for many years. We may do something that pisses the other person off, we may get mad and have harsh words between the two of us. Heck, we may not even speak to each other for awhile, but we manage to work things out, and to remain friends until the bitter end.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

And the use of the hmm emoticon was to stop me from saying something worse. lol Shirley MacLaine, Cher, Bette Midler, Julia Roberts... there's another one... can't remember right now.. but all of them share a special place in my life. A place that I never, EVER visit under ANY circumstances. Bette Midler is like a thousand nails doing a chalk board symphony to me. No idea why, either. Been that way since I was a barely a teenager. I dig your interpretation of the movie and how it relates to your life, though. Unfortunately, Bette Midler is still in it. lol

You don't even like "The Apartment" with Jack Lemmon? hmmm

I could tolerate all of those ladies you just mentioned,,,,,Meg Ryan is the one that makes me wanna run toward a brick wall disbelief I love "When Harry Met Sally" though, but overall, if you watched Meg film, you watched the rest of her filmography, and believe me ONE is more than enough.

I love Bette Midler though, I think she & Angela Bassett are two examples of great actresses who were poorly directed. And being a sucka for camp myself, I'd say she's a pro mushy

Love "Beaches" btw.

No, but there are a few scenes in it I like. Like the scene where Barbara Hershey dies her hair the same color it already was.

And I like the song "Pouncer, Pouncer, the wonder cat, I'm so glad you're not a rat, or a bat, or too fat."

Couple things like that, but that's it.

one "chic-flick" that gets a YAY from me is that one which stars: Sally Fields, Shirley McClaine, Julia Roberts, Olimpya Dukakis, Dolly Parton and Darryl Hanna... what is it again? oh yes "steel Magnolias" don't ask why. i can never get enough of that film.

I love that film. I could never get enough of Dolly & Olympia Dukakis(who for some reason I don't know, couldn't be a household name, she's my FAVE from that ensemble).

Olympia: Our ability to accessorize is the ONLY thing that separates us from the animals.

Dolly: I bet you money Doris VanMeter paid $500 for that dress and didn't bother to wear a girdle. I've had lycra on these thighs since I was 13.

Olympia: That's cuz you were raised right.

Dolly: I wear a size 6 (shoe) but a 7 feels so good I BUY a size 8.

I can quote any scene in Steel Magnolias verbatim. That's my SHIT! thumbs up!

And I love me some beaches too. Bette killed me when she had that big ol' Great Dane. lol

it's not a bad movie. not my favorite chick flick ever. i tend to hate movies and books with weak, stereotyped female characters who constantly need rescuing from themselves. beaches ain't bad, imo. fried green tomatoes is another good 'woman' film.

Me too. lol

I looooooooooooved this movie when I was a kid. Now I'd say I still like it. I love the fashion changes through the years of the friendship and I don't care what anyone says, I love Bette Midler.
