The damn thing keeps making this loud banging noise every 3 minutes and it's driving me nuts!!! The physical plant people have been called numerous times over this and their answer is "it's supposed to make that noise because it's heating up"...WTF???? No how about this building is old as Rome and this fuckin' radiator, which doesn't even put out hardly any heat (I use my ceramic floor heater to keep me warm) is just a piece of shit!!!!!! URRGGGHHH!!!!! I want to do to the radiator what happened to that damn printer in Office Space. Trying to find the original scene on YouTube but it's flooded with a bunch of idiots' remakes of that particular scene.

could you cook up a 'radiator muffler'? like, sometimes the rattle/clang factor of metal/glass components can be silenced with a pillow/cloth pad, duct-taped in place. i hope things quiet down for you soon

The pipes probably are full of air. I think I read somewhere that when radiators bang, there is air trapped in the pipes and when the steam heats up this air, the sudden change in temperature/pressure causes the banging noise. Tell maintenance to "bleed the pipes."

Radiators are unsightly and bulky, but I swear, they produce the best heat when working properly. They're clean and silent. When I lived in an apartment building that was built back in the 1920's, it was heated with relatively small, thin radiators. When that heat was turned on November 15, whether it was cold or not, it would be toasty warm in my apartment. Sometimes I would have to crack a window in the dead of winter, it would get so warm.
