Totally unaffected by this news...the only thing that surprises me is that the US media tries to tie it into a terrorist issue. Sh@t Happens.

Very sad, a tragedy.

Yes, tragedies happen each day, and we are saddened by them.

If someone watches a ficticious movie, and cries, why can't one cry over a true story.

Answer, yes we can, and we do, and

YES, we have a RIGHT to grieve.

Why would you give up something just because an accident happened? People die driving cars every day...Should I say:

"...and everybody still wants to drive?"

People drive to go to work, go see relatives, etc. everyday life.

What the hell is so important about going up in space to see how spiders mate. Boy, I would hate for this research to stop. Has nothing to do with accidents and driving. Get the hell out of space

That is a very asinine thing to say. There are a lot of good reasons to go in space. Hell, I don't know about you, but I'd like our earthly descendants in "x" number of years to have somewhere to go when our sun is gone, or when an impending astroid or something is ready to smack us in the ass, or how about when we simply reach our carrying capacity?

Not to mention, space exploration answers a lot of questions. It's beneficial, dammit. And I believe accidents like this are much less frequent than say, a plane crash. What the hell do you need to fly a fucking plane for? Get your ass on a boat! Or how about this...

"What the hell is so important about going to 'Country X' to sell some shit? Fuck visiting relatives, or doing anything beneficial! Planes fucking blow up sometimes! If I needed to do it, then it should be within a distance I can drive my fucking car that could be hit by some other asshole, and I could die just the same! How about I spend the rest of my fucking life hiding under a bed and contributing nothing because something bad could happen at any moment, be it in the line of doing something productive or not?"

Traveling into space is more dangerous than regular airflight. It is predicted that 1 out of every 75 trips will not "make it". But, even with that, people should still go into space. Those people were doing what they loved to do, what they felt they were born to do. I'm proud of them, and proud that they chose to achieve their goals. I feel pain for their families, but their families knew they were doing what they loved and lived for.

Ok, then I'll say it. The US media was clear that this WAS NOT a terrorist action. The fact that some people were speculating is just human nature, especially post 9/11. Y'all can be radical at times.

Still waiting for word from our president. I'm not looking for a speech, just a few words on behalf of a grieving nation. Once again, he's late with his leadership.

What was he going to do, talk the shuttle back together??? He waited until he got back to the White House instead of speaking from Camp David and he waited to get as much information as possible.

I think he did the right thing... he could have stayed at Camp David and done the speech there, but he went back to the White House as a show of respect.

IM going to weigh in on this repeated Sign of the Times reference...

If you really believe it so foolish then please consider you are far more likely to get in a car accident a plane crash or even personally know someone who has. I wouldn't risk leaving your house!

I was watching the news this morning at 8:30a.m, so when I heard it happened around 8:00am, I was shocked. My heart goes out to the families and those living in Texas, because it's devasting for those abroad, but especially for those so close in the area...it's sad all over, my condolences to the family and to everyone...

If people didnt go into space, dumbass, you wouldn't be able to

1. watch cable tv
2. talk on cell phones
3. listen to satellite radio
the list goes on.

We take space exploration for granted, but there a whole lot of things that we can do today because of what those people have done.
