I'm entering in a 10K in January!!!

excited And I'm so excited!! I'm going to be on the YMCA training team for 10 weeks. Since this is my first 10K, I will be a walker. Then if i'm successful, I'll go up to the novice level in my next one. I'm looking forward to the training part because it will force me to be disciplined. nod Give your stories about any 10K's, 5K's or marathons you've participated in.

That's great. Good for you!!

I took part in a 10 mile a couple of years back. I didn't bother with the training because I thought it would be easy. Around half-way through, I realised I should have trained. lol

I once walked from 900 N. Michigan Avenue to Fishman's Fabrics at 1101 S. Des Plaines in Chicago, which works out to about 10K - and was sore for two days. (By the time I realized I'd made a mistake trying to do that, I was not in prime taxi territory, so had to walk the whole thing.) Of course, it didn't help that I was wearing the wrong footwear for such a trek. (Not to mention the fact that it was winter, so I was cold, to boot.) doh!

I'm an idiot. redface lol

Better luck with your 10K, missfee! biggrin

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Good luck! I've never run a marathon but I watched one once, and it was a blast to watch the runners and cheer them on.

Well I'll be cheering the runners on too because I'm a walker in this race. I'll try the running thing probably in a year or two if I can get my body in gear for it.

Good for you, missfee!

I do have to mention....While doing a 10k is certainly a feet of athleticism, a "marathon" it is not. A marathon is actually just over 42k.

And while I'm on it....10k and 10 miles are a bit different as well. 1 mile is 1.6 km. So your 10k will be 6.2miles. A marathon = just over 26 miles. wink

Good luck just the same!

Oh well thanks for enlightening me on that. lol I didn't quite know what to call it. Just a 10K then? confuse But you are right about it only being 6.2 miles..it says that in the brochure.

Good for you!!! I ran a half marathon in 2005. Let me tell you. My legs were INCREDIBLE! And my ass? You could bounce a quarter off it!!! OWWW!!!!

YAY YOU!! YAY YOU!!!!!

I trained for the 13 miles with my other chubby friend ( lol ) from October to February when we ran it. We did it wrong. First, you kind of don't want to be focused on weight loss and focus on the nutrition your body needs. The Biggest Loser is full of shit. They put their bodies in danger because your body literally swells from the shock you put it through!

Anyway, the day I ran it we didn't eat breakfast (DUMB). We were running to lose weight of course! All we did was drink water at the break stations, no Powerade. Needless to say, by mile 10, I couldnt walk or run, just trot. And they were out of Powerade by then and I was really dizzy, dreaming of sugar packets, oranges, strawberries, etc. So when we finished, I drank about three gallons of powerade.

Don't do what I did and be super serious about your dieting! Your body will literally tell you what it needs if you stop dieting and stuff. I did lose, but not like I wanted. GO YOU! GO YOU!!! GO YOU!!!!! clapping clapping clapping clapping

Good luck on your 10K miss fee, there's nothing like the feeling of crossing the finish line. I just finished my third Marathon in Sacramento last Sunday. Finished it in 4:26, but was hoping to finish it in 4:15. I faded at mile 21 and walked/ran the rest of the way. I'm going to do the L.A. Marathon in March, plus maybe some smaller races as part of my training.
