Updated: Wesley Snipes Ordered To Prison For Tax Evasion
November 15, 2010
Lawyers for actor Wesley Snipes will appear before a Florida federal judge to ask for a new trial claiming that the jury that found Snipes guilty of tax fraud in 2008 was biased against him, the Orlando Sentinel reported Monday.
His lawyers now say they have emails and other evidence to suggest three jurors had determined Snipes, 48, was guilty before his tax conspiracy trial even began.
He was sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty in April 2008 on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file federal income tax returns.
Snipes previously appealed his conviction when a key witness against him -- former financial adviser Kenneth Starr -- was himself convicted of fraud.
But this July, a federal appeals panel in Atlanta upheld the three-year prison sentence for Snipes. He has been free on bond throughout the appeal process.

No lie. If I were rich, famous and black male I would moved the fuck out of this country(Canada). Not saying what Wesley did was honest. It probably wasn't. Everyone knows not to mess with the Feds. But with that said, I'm getting sick of watching famous black men get shit on. It seems like every successful black male gets taken down by either the media, women, or some petty bullshit.

Well, that kind of cuts the upcoming Netflix instant play queue in half, doesn't it?

Criminal tax prosecutions are relatively uncommon. Three years for misdemanor tax evasion with no previous criminal record . . . in a word, excessive.
From what I understand Mr. Snipes had a history of not paying his federal taxes and believes or believed federal income tax laws are unconstitutional. It's the latter part of that statement that caused Mr. Snipes to be sent to the federal pokey for 36 months. Being black and prominent didn't help Mr. Snipes either, but we now how the game is played don't we?

That's about the same length Ron served for his tax evasion conviction.

Marvin moved to London and Belgium because he was scared he may be warranted for an arrest for tax payment failures. I think James moved to England too when tax troubles became a problem.

Ron Isely was convicted on five counts of felony tax evasion. Mr. Snipes was charged and found guilty for failing to file tax returns for 3 years. Tax returns! As I said before excessive and save me the drivel about what some white people do and don't do, we do live in a country that has a two, three, if not four tier justice system.

I'm just saying though, their length of years are similar. I didn't say all that. In fact, I was actually AGREEING that it was excessive.
