Exactly.

Intimacy with out sex/sexual attraction is called a "friend". People seriously need to have this explained to them?

Adding on to that, one of the most annoying neologisms of late is "bromance," which came after "mandate"--as if people were shocked that men could be friends with one another. I've even seen "womance" pop up now. It's ridiculous to me.

i really don't care if oprah is a lesbian or not. but why are some folks trying to force her to say she is one, or try to bring her out of the closet. why does it matter? shrug it's her life, her relationships, so i think it's none of my concern. smile

Somebody should tell Oprah that she can be in an intimate relationship with another woman and not engage in sexual acts with her.

It sounds to me like she's known that for years. Somebody should tell that to the rest of the world.

Let's just be clear that the quote above is from SandraRose..... not me lol

Also, how is Oprah's popularity in Germany?

They don't know of her. She used to air her show here in the 80's and early 90's, but they have no concept of who she is or what she is. She's only been mentioned briefly in the press because she was an Obama supporter, and even then they only know her as "USA Talklady Oprah Winfrey"...they essentially have no clue lol

I assumed that much. I was talking to someone who said the only reason some areas know of her were because she was an Obama supporter and her interview with MJ back in the 90s

I've talked to people who have said "How's Oprah?"

^ this one. nod

Let's talk about the other elephant in the room. If Oprah weren't single and childless, folk wouldn't be so quick to call her a lesbo. She's a powerful woman and really doesn't need to answer this question...again. However, I feel bad for her that the rumor has dogged her for so many years and that certain people do indeed want to paint her as a Liar. Everyone from Kathy Griffin to Rush Limbagh to folk here on the org seem hell bent on making her out to be gay. For what purpose? Just because she's a media maven/billionnaire?

Hell, Latifah is all the way gay but you don't see the heavy tabloid accusations against her the way you do Oprah and Gayle.

Speaking of Gayle, nobody seems to care about her feelings. She's a mother, was a wife (i think she's divorced now); saying she was gettin' busy with her childhood friend makes her out to be a liar as well.

It's funny. You can have a bromance without being gay but if you're two chicks who view each other as family then you're supposed to be eatin' pussy. confused

There's just something about Gayle that reminds me of Shitney Houston. She just seems to favor her a little bit and seems to be just as dull as she is. I don't know about Oprah, but if I were a lesbian, I'd go straight before I'd get with someone like Gayle. evillol

Not since her divorce. She was married to Bill for 13 years. Maybe she deserves to be single for a while, especially after he humiliated her with all his cheating.

On that point, I feel almost the complete opposite. I think that generally, two men (of no familial relation) who are close are more quickly assumed to be Gay than two women (of no familial relation) who are close. As an example; if you see two women kiss & embrace when they say hello, you'd probably not think much of it. But to see two men kiss & embrace when they say hello, probably leaves most people trying to figure out who's the top and who's the bottom, lol.

rolleyes

Regardless, I would never assume two men engaged in an acknowledged "Bromance" to be completely heterosexual. Though admittedly, I'm one who believes that there is a lot of grey area in between GAY and STR8, and that most people fall somewhere in between the two extremes of completely this or that.

What seems most likely to me is that Oprah probably doesn't have much time to be having an intimate relationship with much of anyone at this particular point, beyond what we see on her show (...which is all we'll ever see or know about her, as long as she is in control, lol). And I would concede; that's the way I'd want it if I were her, lol.

I'd want it that way too. It's hard enough being the media queen that she is without people constantly wondering who she's bagging. She barely dealt with those rumors about her being a teen hoochie and having a kid out of wedlock then abandoning it.

But on the bromance topic, I guess it depends on what you consider a bromance. I think of Brody Jenner and his crew, the close friendship Jay Z used to have with Damon Dash, Weezy and Baby, Corey Feldmand and Corey Haim (RIP) etc. I think of guys who have known each other throughout their formative years and consider one another brothers even though they aren't blood related. The whole "brother from another mother" term comes to mind. lol

Women for a long time were allowed to be close and hug each other and lean on each other or give each other a kiss on the cheek without any sexual presumptions until maybe the last couple decades. We went from sisterhood to some version of reality tv/porn playmates. Seems nowadays if you're a chick and you have a close female friend then people are going to assume that with a little alchohol, you will eventually stroke one another's cooters. The other thing is if you and your friend are non-married and childless then you absolutely must be having sex with each other.

I hardly see this reaction with regard to men, not even frat boys. You can be a dude and have all male friends, no girlfriend/wife and no kid and still be str8 without question. shrug Another odd thing is people are assuming Oprah's gay but nobody assumes Martha Stewart is gay. What gives? She's a single billionnairess with no steady boyfriend AND she went to prison. lol

There has been speculation regarding Martha Stewarts' sexuality, long before she went to prison nod . Probably no single person, who chooses to live a private life, is beyond speculation.

I never thought of them as gay. To my knowledge they were druggies who liked groupies. Haim did say both he and corey were molested so maybe rumors started because of that? Shoot I dunno now. lol

I have a very close relationship like that with my best friend, I am not married. I see how a close friendship like this can develop. I think some people just have a hard time believing that a black woman that isn't classically pretty and sporting a darker hue will not or maybe shouldn't deserve the love and loyalty that Stedman (a "pretty" guy) gives Oprah.

I know of a few women that are spoken badly about because other women say, "He's too good looking for her, what does he see in that?" It's just a mean thing to say. I swear if Oprah looked like Halley Berry we wouldn't be having this conversation. Stedman would be so lucky to be able to sniff that when he could. But she's black and ugly... she must be gay! We all know Stead doesn't hit that!

I don't think she is, and besides.. like others have mentioned, she has nothing to lose in saying so. We as a whole can be such very harsh critics towards women in general.

[Edited 12/9/10 1:57am]

Even here on the org I've seen people refer to her as a Mammy.

I've done that. I still hold to that term for her. That's what she is.

That's what makes this whole topic interesting: Oprah's glaring, professional, downright branded asexuality.

Kudos to anyone keeping their private life private. More people should have THAT concept explained to them....

And after all the abuse Oprah went thru, the fact that she is a stable and kind person worth mega-billions is a miracle!
