i need your help. help me (and scores of others) find justice for the murderers of an old friend of mine

[img:$uid]http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b17/cborgman/noel3.jpg?t=1291790348[/img:$uid]

2 years, and 8 months ago, an old friend and little brother of sorts of mine, noel richard lopez, was savagely and horrifically murdered at the age of 25.

his killers planned the murder, beat him for hours, beating him to death as he begged for his life. even after he was dead, they continued to pulverize his body with metal pipes and 2x4's. they broke most of his bones, and even caused his brain to hemorrage. they further defiled his corpse by spray painting it. they even bragged about killing him on myspace and in public.

when it FINALLY went to trial this year, they both plead not guilty. then one turned on the other and copped a plea bargain in exchange for testifying against the other. then the other plea bargained so he could get a lesser sentence as well. they entered "afford" pleas, which essentially means that they wont admit their obvious guilt, but concede that there is enough evidence to show they are guilty. the prosecution is recommmending the minimal sentence, 25 years

the judge, however, will have final say in the sentencing.

a cold, cruel and vile murder of this sort should not be bargained down to a minimal sentence.

and you can help me, people like me, and most importantly his family, get what little justice the court system will offer us:

please sign the petition asking for life sentences for noel's murderers. it will only take a moment of your time, but will help the scores of people left traumatized by noel's murder finally get some closure nearly 3 years later.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com.../22/petition-in-favor-of-a-life-sentence-for-the-murderers-of-noel-lopez/

you can opt for signing it anonymously, but please consider signing your actual name. if you have trouble signing it this way, please look me up and send me a friend request under my pen name: cameron cole

i pray none of you ever has to go through the insanity we have had to in the last few years

pray

thank you

.

it's also on my fbook wall...

it never ceases to amaze me that although we have one of the "better" legal systems on earth it can just as easily be undone by loopholes, bargaining and other maneuvers.

yea, the media fight is VICIOUS. the amount of bullshit that has gone up around it is staggering. when the story first broke, there were "news reports" about noel starting a fight club, being tied to a bomb-maker who blew himself up, and so on.

i scanned a few of the comments and stopped. i can't do it. i do know danny lopez, his brother, who commented. that's as far as i made it. hearing danny, who is about the gentlest person ever, go off like that is more than i can handle.

I read a few more reports to try and find a balanced perspective. Seems like everyone agrees Noel was mentally ill, refused to take medication or return to his family. What I found real sad is that apparently he wasn't sent to a mental instituion because he wasn't deemed a threat to others. That's a fucked up system. In other countries I am sure he would have been admitted for displaying the kind of symptoms he allegedly did.

I don't understand the mentality of these killers whereby they think it's acceptable to attack someone who by all accounts was obviously having serious mental issues. It's just so fucked up. I am so sorry you had to go through this, my heart really goes out to you and his family.

Reading all these media reports has exposed a whole darker side to Seattle that I didn't know about. I do like the city overall, having spent a fair amount of time there. Of course, most cities have a dark side and I'm more than familiar with the things that go on in my own, but it's still quite jarring to hear about that kind of stuff in other places.

This media report seems to be the most insightful of all of them:

noel was mentally ill. i can confirm that much, though i never saw it myself. he was bipolar, something we didnt know until he was 19 or 20. the fact that the hospitals would not admit him despite the family begging is... sad. in hindsight, it might very well mean he would still be alive today if they had. but, that's... speculative.

i can't even begin to understand thee killers' mentality. the evidence and details that we did manage to find out is staggering to say the very least. some of the family described to me just how bad it was, having seen the pics and read the reports and so on.

part 1 of my play cycle is called "gaging noel" and touches (in a fictionalized way) on some of it. when i got to the description of the murder itself, i actually had to tone it down a LOT to not disturb the audience.

it was horrific.

i read that one, but it took me a long time. again, i dont know all of the details, but there are parts of the article i doubt.

maybe his mental illness was a factor, but i find the reports of him trying to have sex with the girl very unlikely. noel was a virgin for a loooong time, by choice. noel was drop dead gorgeouts and could have had sex with just about anyone he wanted, but chose to stay a virgin. it used to mysify me

granted, i did not see him in his illness, only heard about it from him and people around him, but it seems very unlikely to me that he would be trying to have sex with a 15 year old girl.
