What puts you in a trance?

What activity gets you so utterly absorbed that you lose all sense of anything except the process of what you're doing?

For me, it's cooking. I get completely lost in chopping, peeling, frying, simmering, seasoning, broiling, braising, kneading, etc. that I'm almost in an altered state of consciousness. I fucking love it. All of it. Especially when it pays off and I nail something tasty that I've been wanting to try.

It depends.

If I'm really tired, the TV.

Your life is spent wishing you were doing something else at all times?

That's sad.

Once you get a good rhythm it's very zen.

I have to be careful when I'm browsing in a bookstore as well. Sometimes I can get so absorbed I lose track of time or place.

Working out, with good music in my ears....also, i can just walk and look at the sky sometimes and feel all happy and forget about things. Doesn't happen a lot, but it's really a great feeling.

Finding old music. Old being relative. I get caught up in the nostalgia and forget everything else.

Playing the guitar, especially live somewhere. I was out on a gig Saturday, and during a break some of my bandmates were telling me stuff that had gone on around us.

clueless

Stuff had taken place right in front of me, and I'd thought I'd been aware of everything.

A few weeks before this, I was playing elsewhere and realized I was so deep into it that ...

well... drool

I really like to play. It never gets old. lol
