Computer help! Okay, the problem is,I have a desktop computer with a wireless router for my laptop computer that I have upstairs. I have no problems accessing the internet on my desktop (the one computer I am on now),but last night when I tried to access the internet on my laptop it will not let me. I have checked all the troubleshooting things that the computer has suggested, and my laptop says that I am connected, but still I have no browser access.
Can someone help? Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

What OS are you using Laptop make & model PCI Card or built-in wireless connection What brand and model of Router do you have Can you connect to the net using your Cat5 cable that came with your router? What happens when you try to enter network key to connect to the web? Make sure network discovery is turned on Make sure the wireless switch on the front, side, or back edge of the laptop is turned on. Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup.
Can you connect to an open wireless network?

Cat 5 or 6 is cable (ethernet cable) you can use to plugg into your Router to access the internet. Since you don't have it I guess this is a none issue. . .
Go to Start over to your right click on Connect To to "see available wireless networks, dial-up, and VPN connection you can conect to".
Another box with pop up with a list of wirless networks connected to the net in your area. You should see the name of your Router, Netgear N600. You make see others such as 2wire, belkin, linksys etc, etc. Most people will have their networks secured - Security Enabled Network. Some may not, Unsecured Network. If you have an "open" / unsecured network(s) in your area see if you can access one and get on the net. If you can than your built in wireless is working OK.
2. It appears you just need to gain access to your router, when you bought the router it came with a 10 digit network security key. Find your Router - Netgear N600 - right click and click on properties and Network Properties box will open click on Security Tab and you should see something like No authentication (open) in the first box, encryption type - WEP in the second box and the third box Network Security Key - 10 digits number. Type in your network key number and you should be able to connect you laptop. I hope.

Well I tried all that you suggested, and still no luck.
I find it odd that my laptop says that I have made a successful connection to my router, but that I can not access the internet or that I have limited access.
I really appreciate the help. I find it odd that it was working one minute, and now it's not.

have you trace routed via MS Dos?
tracert www.whatever.com
This will indicate if the computer is corrisponding with the router, should give u the IPAddresses
If this works, try Pinging
ping www.nothiswebsiteagain.com
Should resolve the website IP. Hence if these work, then check ur browser

I had a router that kept booting my Vista laptop offline. I replaced it with a newer-tech one and now everything's kosher (although this one won't connect my iPhone from time to time ).
To ask the obvious: Have you tried restarting your modem, router and laptop?
I also had this kind of problem happen randomly, one day, with a D-Link wireless N (USB). It never happened again.

Yes I have tried restarting everything a couple of times, and it doesn't help. I also thought maybe it was my router.I was working with a Linskys,so I went, and bought the Netgear one to see if that would resolve the issue. I am still having problems,so I guess that was not the problem.

Maybe you need to update a driver?

I have checked that also. Everything is up to date.

Well, if a new router didn't resolve the problem, it would seem that the issue's with the laptop. Have you tried Gateway?

Get a new laptop. Or just get rid of it and stick with the desktop.

Is your laptop still under warranty? This problem sounds like your TCP/IP Stack is corrupted.

Like TD3 said your TCP/IP stack could be corrupted.

All is good now. Apparently it had something to do with Vista, and a problem with the IP address. I guess they fixed the issue when they came out with Windows 7,but I never got 7 so...
