I have no issues with Oprah...I think she's a good woman that has done some marvelous things... but I think it's bullshit that she can televise this type of personal issue-a new found sister-and refuse to talk about her relationship with Stedman under the pretense that it's an ultra private matter...

of course, she can discuss her and present her life as she sees fit but c'mon Oprah...exploit much? There are those that think the sister is the lucky one here, I think it's the other way around...yet more publicity for Oprah, new network, new sister...staying relevant like a motherfucker lol

I don't know, it just seems odd to me how she picks and chooses what parts of her private life she presents to the public shrug

How is it you feel?

there's always that chance, I know someone who found her dad and he did not really want to see her, but she found out she had a brother, and I don't think she regretted it. Also, it was not that surprising since the father had already left her life once.

I'm pretty sure $400 is worth it to answer life's questions like that one. The wondering is the hardest part.

What a beautiful coincidence that is! biggrin Maybe the search will happen the other way around and they'll find you. pray

I didn't see this show you're talking about, but it is such a joy to watch reunion of long separated family members. sun God bless Oprah, her sister, and her mother.

I'm pretty sure $400 is worth it to answer life's questions like that one. The wondering is the hardest part.

I have a friend who knew all her life she was adopted.

When she was 18 she tracked down her birth mother. Turns out she married her birth father and had 2 more kids - blow number one, she was excluded from the "family"

then her mother and one of the brothers wanted nothing to do with her (blow number 2) father would have but mother talked him out of it

she started seeing the other brother but he turned out to be a flake that never answered her calls

blow number 3

I'm not saying don't do it, just that nothing will be what you dreamed, and can end in HORRIBLE heartache - for my friend, this was last straw, to be DOUBLE rejected by your family, she ended up clinically depressed and in and out of psychiatric hospital cry

What got me is how calm the sister and children were acting on the show. You know damn well they was doin the electric slide all over the house when they figured it out. Let me find out I'm Oprah's niece or somethin. Auntie can I have $10 million? LMAO

But the mother seems a little triflin. I heard she always was though. She basically never did anything for Oprah. Her grandmother (Vernita's mother) was the one who raised her before she went to live with her father. If she stayed with Vernita she'd probably be a hot mess. Who knows where she would have ended up.

Thank God for Vernon.

yes, you can't approach it as if it will be a happy reunion, it's just meeting some people you don't know, about whom you are interested for personal reasons.

But they are not your parents, they are the ones who gave you up. There is a good chance that whatever made them reject you initially will still be there, if it is a psychological issue. The best you might hope for is to forgive them. Love is possible, but there is no reason to expect it any more than from any other people.
