You know...some of the comments bring to mind something that happened long ago. I was out with my 2 rottweillers in a local forest so their leashes were extended and they happened upon what appeared to be a chicken. They started "playing" with the chicken....(and nothing good could have come of it) so I began reeling them in closer to give the bird a better chance of escaping.
Then this dumb woman jogging by, sees the dogs and the bird (before spotting me) and starts running toward my two full grown, VERY large rottweiler dogs, dogs who dont know her, screaming, yelling and flailing her arms.
Sure...I had control of my dogs.....but what a stupid bitch...she made things worse by exciting the dogs, and she put herself in harms way for a freakin chicken. If I wasn't there, if they were free dogs (like she originally thought)....she would have taken the place of the chicken that they were "playing" with. I imagine that if I wasn't there...this same woman would have probably claimed the dogs were vicious if they mauled her ass because her behavior was threatening to them.....
IMO, only stupid people would interfere with an animal they are not personally familiar with..... Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

I agree with this. I would keep my distance when trying to break up a cat fight using a hose. If you stand too close, you would wind up as one or both of the cats' target, and they probably would wind up attacking you. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I'm not a big cat-fan but those birds looked like busybody assholes to me.

Of course, I would not drown the cats in water (since that DEFINITELY would be cruel). But a light sprinkling of water, from a safe distance, would stop the cats from fighting in a hurry. If a person doesn't feel comfortable using water, the other suggestion that I've read is to make a loud noise to distract the fighting animals. An air can probably would do the trick quite nicely. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Then, by that type of thinking, you should hose down mating cats as well.
Oh, BTW.. I never mentioned drowning cats.

In the first minute it made me think of the full length video for Bad, with the white cat being Michael and the black cat and the birds being Wesley Snipes and his goons.
In my head I heard the white cat scream "YOU AIN'T BAD! YOU AIN'T NUTHIN'...YOU AIN'T NUUUTHIN!"

No, I disagree, because fighting cats and mating cats are two different things. I've been around cats most of my life, and I can differentiate between the two. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

If they r wild animals.. fair enough
But more than likely they r pets…and I would not want my pet injured, and if I can I will stop it from happening…as my pets r like family and that is how it is
To be honest the difference is that you find it amusing and I don’t
It really does not have anything to do with you living in a trailer or with my husband who I have been with for 20 years
Next time stick to the topic and do not cast aspersions…

A cat vs. cat fight is nothing at all like a cat vs. dog fight. Male cats need to establish dominance when trying to make claim on territory, and they usually make tons of noise but never kill one another. Other than the ruckus they make, its not so bad on the cats really. Like mating and hunting, and meowing in Spanish

One thing I've recently learned about cats is that they are territorial too (I guess all cats, even big cats in the wild) that's when my friend gave me her two cat to take care of. We already had one cat, my sister's, and she did not like these new cats and at first there was a lot of growling and hissing but they've learned that they all belong here and tolerate each other. There are times where she will still hiss at one of the cats and shows her dislike for him but it doesn't last long.
There was also another time where a cat from up the hill from us kept coming into our yard eating the food, she chased them away and that cat no longer comes to eat all the food. I've never heard of our other two cats fighting other cats, but maybe they don't come here because of our first cat. So the territorial thing is necessary for them to establish the boundaries where other cats cannot cross.
Normally when I hear the cats fighting though I would shush them and scare them away because it was a nuisance and things get really loud. Now, I would probably join our cats in establishing our yard (food) as our territory by running at them full speed to scare the heck out of them.

The birds finally get their revenge. Just kidding. I wouldn't intervene if I saw two wild animals fighting each-other. However, if it was my cat or someone else's cat (a house-cat), I would probably get the cat away from the birds, since they have diseases, etc. Human's kinda sometimes feel like the have this 'entitlement' when it comes to wild animals, but they really don't. They have to fight their own battles. I understand if animals are endangered or unpopulated, or if its effecting something that directly effects humans, but other that, dont feel a need to get involved. Like here in Wisconsin: deer hunting season just eneded, we have too many deer, and if their was no hunting, we'd get overun by deer. So, I think that in that case the entitlement comes into play. I was gonna say another songbird thats really gangsta is the HOUSE SPARROW. Very gangsta and not afraid to fight for what they feel they are entitled to. Animals, even the basic of animals, have a killed, or be killed mentality. I'm in the mood for love...simply because your near me.

My old cat I had when I was growing up got in fights ALL the time. A female calico would go missing for a couple days, only to come back bloody and all beat up. We would take her to the vet, stitch her up, she would come home, sleep for like a week solid, wake up and be like nothing happened. My dad saw her in the middle of one before and said she was being territorial and picked the fight. He said it was loud and scary, but that she beat the shit out of the other cat. I remember my mom asking why he didn't break it up, he said there was no way he was going to get in the middle of that mess. Figured the cat could take care of herself, which she always did.

I am the owner of, or should I say, I am owned by 7 cats, 6 males (2 whole) and one female. All the cats are "fixed" except the two youngest males. They all get along with the exception of 2 of my neutered males. They just don't see eye-to-eye and get into it at least once a week. They usually just growl and howl at each other, but one time they got into a major, fur-flying fight outside. It was fascinating to watch. It was almost like they were doing an energetic ballet, but the caterwalling was horrific. I just llet them go at it. It ended in less than 30 seconds, but I wasn't about to get scratched to ribbons trying to break it up. An hour later they were eating together in the kitchen. That's what cats do sometimes, just like some adults.
Oh, and to add about the birds. That was fascinating to watch. I had never seen birds act like that around cats. I have seen mockingbrids dive for some of my cats when they get too close to their nests, but to see them actually traisping around them. Those birds had balls! I doubt they would have lasted a minute around one of my babies. They are some hunters. They have brought me squirrels, snakes, frogs, countless birds, lizards, bugs, rabbits, and I've even seen them playing with raccoons. [Edited 11/30/10 14:37pm]
