The blue jays used to swoop down at our cats. They are some nasty noisy birds

that was horrible, i could not watch it all

and to think someone stood there behind the camera, allowing that poor cat to be hurt like that...that's cruel

If I were to witness a cat fight as bad as this one, I would take a hose and sprinkle it on the cats. They would run away in a hurry, since most cats HATE water.

I'm sure the cat is okay, it happens all the time. Territorial dog fights are scarier because sometimes there is blood.

but I don't understand why some people are sickened by this? There is no human interference... therefore no animal cruelty (unless you think cats need to be governed!). I would not try to stop a cat fight unless it was from some distance with a hose. If you read some comments on the video, the idea is that the black cat and the birds all live in a certain territory or backyard, and the white cat is trespassing.

Catfights are quite common in neighborhoods.

The one time I have seen birds act very offensive (as opposed to defensive) is when there is an unseen nest with eggs or young ones around.

I've seen my own cat make some crazy noises and turn fierce when a neighbors cat wanders around or peeks in the cat door. I do sometimes check her for scratches, because she goes and comes freely with her electronic collar chip activated cat door. None so far.

Those crows are amazing, I love blackbirds. They are noisy and annoying at times, but brilliant!

I am with ufoclub on this one, no cruelty in nature itself. Cats are good hunters and may have reaked havok on the crows nest... those two birds looked like a mated pair of crows. Crows always team up to hunt and protect themselves. The crows in my mother's yard fought the fledgling red-tailed hawk.

I wish I took video of that.

Heck, even the blue-jays were swooping down on the hawk. The hawk sat there unaffected, ducking its head every now and then, but that was it.

That cat fight was something else, the brown and white cat put up a good fight, several rounds. I don't think it was sick at all, the brown and white cat seemed to be quite alert when ganged up on.

i love crows/blackbirds/jays too. they have such a bad reputation, but they're super smart. mischevious as all get out, but smart!

that cat fight wasn't as scary as i thought it would be from the 'warning'. i didn't like it but i was mostly impressed by how the bird kept darting in, all bold

i agree, if you can stop an animal from getting hurt you should...this is why we r supposed to be the humans

it's sad when people think it's funny to tape or watch an animal being hurt... because watching something happen is not part of nature

cats hate water, so to a cat, its cruel to throw water on it.

Cats establish a pecking order, and it is natural for cats to fight for territory, they may have been fighting for food, a female etc. So it is actually cruel to stop a cat from fighting if it needs to establish its territory or dominance.

Responsible humans should never feed stray cats. The only interference stray cats need are neuter and spaying and shots to prevent worms, innoculations etc. All of which in a cat's POV is very cruel and scary.

Now watching a dog maul a cat is an entirely different story. I would stop that.

Yup. Almost all Jays. Scrub Jays might be the worst. I've seen them get aggressive with people at campgrounds while trying to get food off a table. Just fly on down and start screaching. A lot of people think Scrubs ARE Blue Jays, too. But Blue Jays are actually much prettier.

Animal cruelty? Allowing that "poor cat to be hurt"...... Seriously.....get a life. You are so into "protecting" animals that you dont want them to behave the way they are naturally inclined to. I really hope you dont decide to do something like get married........next you'll be complaining that disagreements shouldn't happen.....

It's kind of dangerous to try to approach any animal that is going wild/fighting/attacking... you could get hurt.

Dogs and cats are domesticated animals, not wild animals( like a cyote vs. a rabbit). So I would break it up because a dog, (most likely someone's pet) would not EAT a cat carcass. I would not want a dead cat anywhere near my house. So in that case I would stop a dog from killing a cat.

Two cats fighting are just that.. two cats fighting, cats usually don't kill one another.

I separated dogs fighting before, two dogs jumped my pit. I had to get her out of that, she was being mauled by german shepard mixed dogs.

But if a dog has a collar and is not too huge I would grab the dog's lease or collar or hose the dog down. I would do my best to prevent a dog from killing someone's cat.

I was in a similar situation years ago when I still had a dog. Only the big ass dog biting my dog tried to bite me when I went for his colar. I followed the only advice I'd ever heard about how to handle that situation; I kicked it square in the chest. I felt REALLY bad about it, but it had already left bloody scraps on the end of one of my dogs ear, so I didn't feel THAT bad. It stopped and ran away right fast, too. Never did see who it's owner was, but I'm sure they were at the park somewhere. It wasn't a stray.

In regards to breaking up other animal fights, I don't know. They're still animals and they've got their own pecking order. If it wasn't my pet I think I'd stay out of the way.
