Ok guys....need help. So that last two months have been probably the worst months of my entire life. I had that terrible sinus infection that was brutally painful. Then I found out I was sick, then developed TMJ from stress, then shingles (unbelievable, eh?) again from stress and then had my surgery. And my son was seriously injured as well.
Well, now guess what? I have an impacted wisdom tooth that I can't have pulled until tomorrow morning. Ive been in pain for 2 days. I went to the doctor tonight and they gave me Tylenol 3s and I am popping Advil. I'm double dosing in fact because the pain is so bad now (mostly in my ear).
Anyone know any other home remedies? I just rubbed whiskey on my gums...I read that can help.
I had a breakdown tonight from all the pain and stress I am under...I'm really hurting here folks and do not think I will be able to sleep tonight.

Make sure you're taking at least 4 200-mg Advil per dose. That'll get you to prescription strength. The Advil will help with the inflammation - the Tylenol #3 will handle the pain.
Hope everything goes well with getting it removed. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Can you take Advil PM? Hopefully that would help you sleep through some of this.

Wish I had a remedy for you.

I'm not sure she'd want to mix antihistamine (which is the PM part of the Advil PM) with codeine... We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Sorry to hear it. Wish I had some sort of advice, but I'm not too knowledgeable with this sort of thing.
But if you find yourself up late, I can probably post random BS to pass time, for whatever that's worth. (Next to nothing.)

Ok, I took 1 400mg and 2 tylenol 3s. About 3 hours ago.
I honestly can't believe how much pain I am in....still.
Lots of tears today...sobbing actually.

Right. I think I've been overdoing it all day too.

Yay for the night crew! | |

And believe it or not....the whiskey helps....but only for a few minutes. I keep loading it on.

Okay. If you're three hours out from the last dose, wait another half hour (if you can stand it), then take 2 of the Advils and two of the Tylenol 3s together. It'll take a half hour for the new meds to hit your blood, so the others will have worn off.
Do you have anything like Anbesol or Chloraseptic? Those have topical anesthetics in them, which would be safe to use with the other meds. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

What the fuck don't you know.

K, it seems to come in waves. Does that even make sense. Like I have a few moments of calm then it flairs up. It's shocking to me that the pills haven't totally numbed it. I am also taking antibiotics in case there is also an infection.
I searched for some anbesol but it's all packed away in the storage unit, since I moving in a few weeks.

Erin, the "pain in waves" thing totally makes sense. I had that when I had surgery on my mouth a couple months ago. Not sure why the meds aren't totally knocking the pain down. You might just need something stronger. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Hey, have you tried using a compress? Try cold (like an ice bag or a bag of frozen vegetables) and warm - see which works better... We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

They are knocking it down some...but not enough. I'm having some relief right now though....thankfully!

Cold killed, so warm works better.

Do not take any aspirin / panadol as it causes bleeding and you don't need that
the whisky thing is true...it does help, don't drink it, just put it on your tooth and gum
and you can also put some cotton wool in your ear, that helps too
Good luck

As much as I would like to drink it all right now...I'm not...just rubbing it on.
I'll try the cotton trick too!
Thanks! | |

cotton wool stops your ear from throbbing and also means u hon't have to hear.....

Thank you so much!
I'm nice and drugged up and ready to pass out.

Have you tried putting whole cloves on your gum? I know it's good for numbing toothache.

Ok, by now you have surely passed out so I guess I cannot help. Looks like you had some helpful suggestions.
When we were in the states recently, I bought some baby orajel. Damn, that shit is strong. If you have any way to get some adult orajel, that should numb it. Though it will probably only numb it for a few mins.
I hope the new year brings you back to happier days. You and the little man.
Take care!
Hope you feel better soon. I know that it sucks to have pain, it wears you down.

hope you're feeling better, or at least getting some serious ZZZZzzzzzss

I've used clove oil, which is supposed to help, without much relief.
My dad's home remedy of a crushed aspirin made into a paste with vodka helped more.
Percocets helped the most.

Ugh, no fun!
I am currently going to PT for TMJ! A lot of it has to do with my posture...I had no idea! My right shoulder blade is lower than my left and further away than it should be. It all connects so I am doing some strenghtening exercises in my shoulders and getting swee neck and jaw massages.
I had an impacted wisdom tooth as well, and it was infected. You might need some antibiotics, if it's infected pain medication won't do too much. If you keep eating all those pills please make sure you are eating, it can wreak havoc on your stomach!
You'll be fine once it's removed, but follow the doctors instructions. I got dry sockets and it was the worst pain in my entire life.
Oh and I also just got over a bad sinus infection. Pressure point massage on your face does WONDERS.
Good luck, girl. No fair to deal with all that at once.
