I love homeade gifts... I love xmas ornaments that people make, most of our tree is ornies that my kids have made, ones I have made, and homeade ones from friends...

Lots of people dont like the homeade things like my sister... My daughter started doodling and she was very good so we bought her charcol (sp) pencils and the paper and she is amazing at it, so my sister loves this angel monument at the cemetary my dad is at, so my daughter went there, Its in another town and hour away, took pics then came home and drew it, matted and framed it for her xmas gift... It still is sitting on her floor... pissed It makes my daughter sad as well because she was so excited to do that for her...

So, its not everyones cup of tea but I love homeade stuff!! Be it food, ornies, or whatever!!

okay I'm really not trying to be mean (for a change)

lol Hats. I do not do hats. Don't get me those dumb, stretchy hats so I can mess up my glorious afro! I also can't stand tights, gaudy jewelry, and stinky bath sets. Don't get me wrong, I adore bath sets in general, but...I've gotten some pretty smelly ones that just tend to sit in the box until I get desperate for lotion or need to scrub a dub after a sweaty yard activity. Also, shoes. People just don't know how to pick things out for my style or body type. Just give me a certificate if we're doing clothes. And makeup kits. UGH. I don't even wear makeup that often. So for me to get that slick lip gloss (with only three nude colors and maybe one dark color I can get away with wearing...) or some 25-palette eyeshadow thing I don't have the desire to blend with...meh...kinda a failure gift.

I adore things like blank poetry notebooks, good gel pens, haiku books, those novelty books from Border's are nice....and funky socks. I loooove crazy knee and ankle socks with stripes and prints. Gift cards are nice, head scarves, dangly earrings, old Jazz cds--these are things I can get down with.

I think my dad knows me best. One time he really suprised me with the entire set of Sailor Moon dolls and a movie-and I didn't even think he knew I liked anime. He's also finally keen to the fact that I write a lot. Basically, artsy stuff. The only person I'd trust with getting me clothing would be my aunt Lynn. And that's only because she's watched me shop for clothes and knows I'm into mixing hippie with sporty and urban stuff.

I have a very small family and group of friends that I exchange gifts with. ALL OF US make lists for each other, so to be honest, I really like getting the things on my lists. lol I'll purposely start holding off buying certain things around the beginning of October just to list them. We always make sure that there's enough stuff on the lists that you won't know exactly what any one person might get you. And really, it's pretty awesome to exchange gifts with someone and know, for absolutely certain, that there is no disappointment on either side when they're opened.

This doesn't mean I don't get random gifts, though. I do. So to answer the question I really love books, music or kitchen stuff. Especially if somebody happens to find a book or record that I've mentioned looking for. That's probably my favorite.

-------------------

In regards to the other ongoing convo, I can be gracious in accepting a gift without being grateful for the crap somebody gave me. lol Moms would be mad if I didn't use the manners properly.

This is EXACTLY what we used to do for years, but then we all got to a point where we said, what the heck are we doing? We're all to the point in our lives where if we want something, we just go and get it anyway, so why bother with this charade?

To answer John's question, the gift card route to a place I like to shop is always the best things to get. That way when your mom sends you, "George Carlin's Famous Last Words", you're not looking at it going, "Um.... Gee... Thanks mom"........

good question. i dont really know. the last few christmas's i've forgotten that i'm supposed to get presents too because i'm usually too focussed on everyone else.

but if i had to make a list (which i've never done before) it might go something like:

1. a lottery ticket

2. money

3. gift vouchers

4. a gift voucher for an hour long body massage (havent had one in ten years)

5. maybe a gift voucher for a facial (havent had one in ten years)

but most of all i like surprises. i love it when someone gets me something i never would have thought of getting myself.

this too shall pass

I don't like to receive bath products and body lotions and stuff like that. I'm very picky about what goes on my body and i'd rather just buy my own. If I get anything like that i'll give it away.

Other than that, i'm not really fussy. I think i'm a pretty easy person to buy for.

i got so many lotions and bubble baths in the linen closet. enough for a army! althought bath and body works raspberry vanilla is quite nice and a new one called dark kisses thats a berry creme

yoda i don't wear a cross?!!? i wear a prince symbol prince guitar wacky nutty I When Prince's cum dries, diamonds are formed. lol eek drooling no one tops prince in concert!

As a huge music fan,I prefer CDs,box set, books about artists that I like.I also like DVD sets.Basically,I like to receive "fun" gifts,as opposed to stuff that I really need, like a new robe or something wink

Oh boy please, you got everything that's been put on CD /DVD. I hope your son buys you a robe cuz I know the one you are wearing is akin to Linus security blanket.

As I was saying . . . lol

I like electronic do-dads for my ipod or laptops: microphones, software, earphones / speakers, flashdrives, and how to books on OS's & applications. I like guitars and related gear . . . I'm hoping someone buys me an acoustic amp, one of those new classical guitar's made for steel string players. whistling

I don't need another article of clothing and I'm really picky about the type of perfumes I wear. I love the holidays.

I love perfumes and make up. Gift cards, cooking utensils/pans, money, DVDs are also favorites.

I agree with you on the home decor. I'm a bit particular too. For instance, I love scrapbooking, pictures frames and my cat. My mom thought I would like a scrapbooked picture frame that says "I love my cat". Let's just say it was not the best gift I ever received from her.

I also refer people to my Amazon wish list but people can't seem to grasp the concept that they don't have to order off of that list. It's a point of reference, a suggestion. I wish ALL of my friends/family had an Amazon wish list. It sure would make things a lot easier for me.

Well, personally, I would be fine with not exchanging gifts at all. But I'd also be fine with never getting together for any reason, too. lol So long as all the people involved want to keep exchanging gifts I'm cool with this setup. It's worked well for us for many years.

The presents I like most are

----

cash of course

Gift cards- This is actually my preferred gifts

Electronics- I'm hoping someone will bless me with a Wii, iPod, or a laptop this year

least

-----

clothes- it seems nobody in my family knows my style neutral I don't know how many wack looking sweaters I've gotten in the past 4 years or out of style jeans mad

But I'd also be fine with never getting together for any reason, too. = Greatness

Luckily, save very few folks, all of our family and friends are extremely tight. So getting together is actually the beautiful part of it for us.

One of my siblings still insists on getting everybody something. The first year I felt very guilty about not returning the gesture. "Oh thanks for the gift - I have nothing for you". But we all had made it clear that we were going to stop the madness, (because if what I said above).

Any way, even if it sounds awfully fargin tacky, I suppose the fact that getting together is the best part of the holiday is a good thing. Having a super tight family is not the most common thing these days.
