I loved Oprah's celebration. I didn't know that Tina Turner was supposed to play Shug. eek

I love that Celie is reunited with her sister and children and that she get's her mother's house and most importantly she is freed from Albert/Mister. My fav scene is the thanksgiving dinner scene.

"Y'all was rotten kids....rotten kids...made my life here hell. O course yo daddy aint nothin' but some horse shit!"

"You gonna let this nappy head gal sass you, you sittin' at the head of your own dinner table and you actin' like a waiter"

"Hush up you old fool, Sophia home now!"

"Anymore letters come?"

"Could be...could be not...who's to say?" wink

I never get tired of watching this movie. I think the acting was outstanding. WHOOPI WAS ROBBED, Y'ALL! She acted her ass off in that movie. Oprah gets on my last nerve, but I've got to give her props. She did a hell of a job for it to be her first acting role. Hell, it was Whoopi's first, too I believe.

I went to see it when if first came out in theaters. The movie house was packed. I remember two middle aged black women sitting in front of me, and in the scene where Mister is kicking Netti out of the house, those ladies completely LOST IT. They were sobbing, rocking and carrying on. eek I figured that scene must have hit home pretty hard. sigh

The movie was robbed at the Oscars... for a long time Speilberg had built up an insider backlash because he connects so strongly/successfully wth audiences on many of his films. And all those actors and the music... 110%. It's not realistic, more like a fairy tale with evil bad men, and colorful poetic sentimental moments... but it surely connected with many. As you saw.

Awwww sad

It is a good scene though. It makes me cry. I hate it when Mister starts throwing the rocks at Nettie. He already hit her hands trying to loosen her grip on the fence or whatever it is. He's throwing the rocks at her and yelling "get off my land!" It's an emotionally stirring scene. I don't know how anyone cannot shed at least one tear.

Didn't he get an Oscar for that? If he didn't win it, I'm sure he got a nomination.

Damn shame.

There were several oscar worthy performances in that film.
