Marvel Comics Announces the Death of Spider-Man

It's just the Ultimates version, so it's not the "official" Spider-Man. But with all the carnage going on in that comics line recently, what's left?

Marvel Announces Death of Spider-Man By Bendis & Millar
Groundbreaking New Storyline Hits the Ultimate Comics Universe in February

Marvel is proud to announce Death of Spider-Man, the groundbreaking new story that forever changes the Ultimate Comics universe from superstar writers Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar. Kicking off with a prelude in Ultimate Spider-Man #153 and going into high-gear with Ultimate Avengers vs New Ultimates #1, this is the story that no comic fan can afford to miss when it all begins in February 2011 because, in the Ultimate Universe, There Are No Rules. This storyline continues in further issues of both Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Avengers vs New Ultimates.

“As a group and as individuals we have made a conscious effort to create stories this year that no one has ever seen before,” said Bendis. “I am very, very proud to be a part of this storyline and very proud of Marvel for even attempting such a bold endeavor. Sit back and watch as we unveil a storyline unlike any other!!”

The most successful new imprint of the century, Ultimate Comics has continually pushed the limits of super hero comics and raised the bar for comic book storytelling, with Ultimate Spider-Man Vol.1 selling well over one million copies.

Millar added, “This is the biggest, boldest thing we've attempted in the ten years since we kicked this line off. This is the one thing that could be bigger than the CREATION of the Ultimate line and it's great to be a part of it. Being part of something like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and soon you’ll all get to read the story we’ve written for you, This should be up there with the very small number of events that really mattered. This is going to be big.”

This February, Death of Spider-Man marks the most ambitious Ultimate Comics story yet…and one that no fan will ever forget!

Ok I have read it, and it is good!

here is the summery:

See Peter gets sent to Hawaii to see if he can dig up obama's real birth certificate and Mary Jane goes to see her uncle, that has always been like a father to her even though he was never mentioned before. He is a big time architect and when she is vising him she finds a little idol. She gives it to peter a gift but it is cursed and takes away all his spider powers. A fact he hides from Mary.

But then Peter is challenged to a surfing contest with a man that says he can remove the curse. So takes the idol with him for luck! But its cursed calls up some sharks and they get between peter and the shore. So his only hope is to JUMP them on a conveniently place water ski ramp. But he gets over confident and tries to do a spiderman flip and falls into the water and a shark eats him!

But at the end the idol washes ashore and Mary picks it up! and says "oh peter...I know you are out there somewhere..." and the idol is shown with little webs dripping of of it and they little spider sense squiggly lines...

DC Comics has already shut down Wildstorm Comics a few weeks ago. It was report that some characters from the Wildstorm Universe (W.I.L.D.cats & Gen 13) will make their debut in the DC Universe in the near future.

I think Marvel Comics is planning to end the Ultimate Universe before 2011, but I could be wrong.

All I know that in the (regular) Marvel Universe, Jean Grey is THE only X-Men that is "dead" for the moment.

Jean dosn't count (i have not read a comic in years-since magneto pulled wolverine's adamantium out)
