I'd help you if I lived closer.

By "helping" I mean bringing over some cupcakes and wiping your and Ron's sweaty brows. Mixing and serving drinks too, of course.

It's what you make it.

Oh that's real nice... I love the living room ones!!

John, I'm very happy for you!! hug

The living room ones are my absolute favorite! nod they will frame out our mid-century desk which will sit in front of the window (partly a design choice and partly to keep Bogart from wanting to eat everything that passes in front of our house thus constantly slobbering it up lol). Here's the desk:

[img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/P8230042.jpg[/img:$uid]

You're the expert so I'm gonna pick your brain.

1)I was thinking wood blinds to go across (we probably wouldn't be closing the drapes often. Would this be too much (with the pattern and the lines on the desk)? I kinda think it's one of those things that could go really cool or really wrong. lol Also keeping in mind that the rest of the design will be clean and uncluttered. Also, I want to keep it masculine.
The only other thing I can think of is sheers, or maybe nothing (would that look unfinished or ok?). As you see in the house pic, it's a nice sunny window. I don't really want to lose any more light than what the panels will block from the two sidewindows.

2)I was thinking of the panels resting in front of the side window sections, I know I will lose some light from this. Ron suggested having the panels over the wall (like when you cheat a window to look larger) to keep the full window...my concern is won't it look odd? Only because I think you can tell it's not a window that needs to be cheated, and I'm afraid if we did, it would look like it was a whole wall of window, which for that room would seem out of place IMO. Whaddayathink Mr. Curtain Man???

[Edited 11/16/10 7:14am]

1) I agree that 2" Wood blinds might be a little too much wood, what with the floor and all. However, white shutters might work if you're looking for a way to control light & privacy without detracting from that desk (which is s.t.u.n.n.i.n.g. faint ) What I really insist you look at is the Hunter Douglas Silhouette I think that would be most appropriate for your setting.

2) I would split the difference, go half & half. That way the panels aren't too unbalanced and you don't lose 18-24" of your wall just to hang fabric over it.

I would also recommend that you do a mock up of where you want your hardware before you paint the walls, that way you can mount hardware, take notes and know where everything belongs after the paint has dried.

That guest room has a lot of owners. lol

I'm decorating it in what I hope will be a good balance of feminine and masculine.

Black and white (the black curtains above with the graphic flower stitch, not too frilly), graphic black and white bedding, black and white artwork. I am painting the frame of the daybed black.

Then at either end of the room there will be wood (the dresser currently in our room and the sewing table from the living room). I will accessorize the room with pops of purple and teal.

I actually think that's an awesome idea. I'm one of those people who would prefer to live out of a suitcase than actually unpack. I just don't like putting my clothes in strange drawers. shake

Well, chances are we will be using the drawers in that room anyway. boxed (or at least some)

But we too live out of the suitcases when we travel or even stay with family.

There's also something that feels a little bitchy (good bitchy) about setting the room up before guests come. Putting out their towels etc and setting out the luggage rack. Like we're Chez Homos for realzzzz. lol
