Baby dead after mom tosses infant into washing machine, launches spin cycle: cops

An Oklahoma woman has been charged with felony child neglect after her 10-day-old baby was killed in a washing machine.

Lyndsey Fiddler, 26, was high on drugs when she put her newborn daughter, Maggie May Trammel, in the washing machine along with the dirty laundry and started a washing cycle, local station NewsOn6 reported.

The baby’s great aunt, Rhonda Coshatt, was also in the house at the time and realized something was wrong when she saw Fiddler passed out and unresponsive on a chair with the child nowhere to be found.

After hearing a clunking noise coming from the washer, she opened the lid and found the dead infant.

Fiddler, who is being held on $100,000 bail, tested positive for a variety of drugs, including methamphetamine, amphetamines, benzodiazepine and opiates.

Under questioning, she told police that she wrapped her daughter in a blanket and gave her a pacifier, but was unable to remember how the baby ended up in the washing machine and went through an entire washing cycle.

Fiddler’s dangerous drug habit spurred her relatives toward an unsuccessful attempt to have her parental rights stripped when she was four months pregnant.

This is not Fiddler's first run-in with the law, the Tulsa World reported. She had previously been convicted of larceny and assault and battery, and has received numerous traffic violations for speeding, driving without a license and failing to put her other kids in child safety seats.

Although Fiddler currently only faces child neglect charges, prosecutors are looking to build the strongest possible case against her.

Only child neglect because under the influence she lack mens rea for murder is my pop quiz guess.

Manslaughter requires that you knew or should have known your conduct could kill or that you owed a duty of care based on your knowledge and consciously ignored the danger to another.

Child neglect just doesn't seem to appropriate here.

sad

Did this woman realize what she did while she was high outta her mind? Did she just accidentally drop her baby in the washer while high? Sounds like she just fucked up in a huge way.... still, that poor baby should have never been left in her care. It was irresponsible to leave any child with that woman.

I swear women like this need to get their ovaries removed so there is no possible future chance at all to endanger another child.

The judge that allowed her to keep that baby should also go to jail.

I don't think she did realize it.

She was holding a blanket (with her child inside), she was washing. The blanket simply went into the wash with the other clothes.

We have a society that presumes children need their mothers more than they need a caring adult.

Probably poor documenting of her bad present parenting (she has other children), didn't persuade the judge that she should not be attempting to raise children at all.

Family support mitigated the effects of her bad parenting on her other children but again made it harder to make it clear that she could not parent.

So sad that her family tried to have her parental rights stripped before this, but were denied.

This could have been avoided.

I just read in the local paper that a new court date has been set for this woman and more charges could be filed against her. I hope they come up with some good ones because child neglect is not enough.

Horrific story.

At least the baby will be spared the mindbogglingly fucked up life he/she would have had as this person's child.

God that sounds ugly, but Im just trying to find a positive way of looking at this.
