Black Draught, SSS tonic...that's what the grown folks used to take.
And, (I am not making this up),... cerasse. My Bahamian godmother used to pull them damn weeds off the fence and boil 'em... Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Well, I'll be . . . I guess bleach baths are quite common
Dilute bleach baths have long been recommended to help children with recurrent skin infections, especially those with hard to control eczema and/or MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infections. Since some children can't even tolerate dilute bleach baths, be sure to talk to your pediatrician or pediatric dermatologist before trying a bleach bath.

My mama was the Angela Davis-black power type...no colorstruck knee-grows allowed.
Discrimination between the redbones and brownskins was not tolerated. She used to get into it with a few family members who tried to treat us light skinned kids different than the darker ones.

Bleach baths go waaaay back, y'all! I remember back in the late '50's one of my parents' friends talked about how the ladies always asked him how he kept his skin so soft, smooth and "light." This man said, tongue-in-cheek, "Oh, I put a lilttle bleach in my bath water." He tried to claim he wasn't serious...yeah, right, nucca!
And I knew exactly what Phaedra was talking about with that 50 cents piece over the navel. That's what midwives used to do with babies born at home in the south. I remember when I stepped on a rusty nail while spending the summer in Atlanta, my great, great aunt taped a penny over the punture wound. That was supposed to "dreen out the piesin." as my aunt said. Well, it must have worked because I didn't get lockjaw and my foot didn't turn green, but the penny did!

I've heard that you tape the coin to your bellybutton to keep it an innie while preggers. I haven't seen the RHOA ep yet tho. I've also seen that penny trick. [Edited 11/16/10 6:08am]
