More computer headaches Now my work desktop has dropped its Internet connection. You should know:
- The other computers on the network aren't having the problem
- I can connect to the network
- The Internet has connected twice on its own since the problem started, but disconnects again after a few minutes
- Diagnostics have said, "The default gateway is not available" and, another time, something about the DNS server
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

your fault is intermittent!
I bet internet works fine when replicating the problem for an IT consultant.
So what you need to do is fool your computer into thinking that IT person is ALWAYS there, watching |

Man, I'm a pretty solid PC geek, and proud of it! I can setup a network like it's nothin'. But if it doesn't work, or stops working, you'll usually get this from me Especially if it's a wired network. Makes no dang sense that a wired connection should stop working and/or not be easily fixed if it does.
It's wireless (D-Link). |

No previous problems? Has the PC/laptop and server in question always been in the same location? Have they disconnected, uninstalled and started over yet? (That works more often than you'd think it would. It's one of the things they'll try eventually, anyway.) |

Check to see, if you IP address is still there. If not, you might have to re-enter it. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth" |
