Just in time for the holidays - fruitcake! Okay, who loves it?
Seriously, fruitcake is awesome. If you don't like it, it's because 1) you've never had a good one or 2) you're an anti-fruitcake lemming.
Have a great recipe? Lay it on us! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Tradition here
I've heard of people using those as door stoppers Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

I was just telling Cerebus (in the holiday traditions thread) that my mom makes awesome fruitcake. The cake is just "glue" for the fruit and nuts.
She wraps the finished cakes in cheesecloth and bastes them regularly with booze. They keep for months - and just keep getting better. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

the Collin Streett Bakery in Texas makes the Deluxe Fruitcake. It's the best ever! It's expensive but worth every penny once you taste it. You'll be hooked, trust me!

Only because they're deadly delicious! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'm going to make a confession here. I've never had fruitcake. I always thought it was funny that everyone would joke about how ubiquitous they were at the holidays when no one in my very large family ever made one or got one as a gift or whatever. I'd try one, though, if presented with one.

The production of that stuff is the ONE crime for which I firmly support the death penalty. I'd even pull the switch!
The one and only time I ever projectile vomited was after eating fruit cake. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I've never had it either. Have only heard terrible things about it. "not a fan" yeah...ok

My mom ate it nonstop during the holidays.
I can enjoy some. A little goes a long way for me (and not just cuz I'm fruity enough ).

New Glarus Bakery's stollen is the best.
They ship, by the way. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Oh wow. I didn't know there was a fruit cake thread. Just consider everything I said in the "traditions" thread to be applicable here as well. Love. It.

Ditto! I shall be having myself some Apple Bread - oh yes I shall. I'm also impressed they have so many kinds of rye bread, which is a personal favorite. I can get all those around here, though. That Apple Bread, not so sure.

Their rum balls (balls ) are awesome, too. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Now we are talking! I used to make bourbon and rum balls every year!

I wonder if we make any desserts that don't have booze in them... We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I saw those but I'd already posted about the Apple Bread. Their Original Nut (nuts ) and Almond Nut Horns sound pretty incredible, too.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Both y'all need to get to bakin' so I can just order them from you.
