DALLAS - The Dallas Cowboys on Monday fired Coach Wade Phillips.

Team owner Jerry Jones cryptically alluded to the move on Sunday following the team's embarrassing 45-7 loss to Green Bay.

"I think there are a lot of people who will suffer the consequences. Players, coaches," Jones said Sunday. "I know first-hand what it is to have high expectations. Our expectations are thinking we were something we were not."

The team confirmed it appointed Jason Garrett interim head coach.

The Cowboys have scheduled a 4 p.m. news conference to address Phillips' firing.

No further details were immediately available.

lol...great, just in time for the Jints. I like Jason Garrett..he was once our backup quarterback. we'll see what he can do with no quarterback. The Minnesota Vikins coach is next.

To be honest, I bet Wade is fucking relieved not to deal with this mess anymore. His press conferences were so sad cuz he just wanted to be taken out back and shot in the head to end his misery. comfort

I wonder what he's gonna do now? Who's the DC gonna be now? Hell, who's the OC gonna be now? How the hell is dumbass Jason gonna be the head coach AND OC? He can't call decent plays when it's his only job! Man, I wanted him to disappear too. pout

What those clowns need is a Bill Cowher. Jones wouldn't go for that.

I think John Fox will be the next Dallas coach.

I've BEEN asking for Cowher for the last 3 years. I think Jerry WOULD make that move now. This season has been such a humiliation that he would agree to anything to get Bill here and he BETTA! hammer

Jerry is gonna do what it takes not just to win, but most importantly to protect his brand from a marketing standpoint.

I'm in Denver and when the Raiders beat up on us couple weeks back we were all shocked to see MCDaniels (Bronco head coach) still had a job. It's bad enough to lose that bad but to the Raiders at home????? unforgivable!

Jerry Jones: Owner/GM/Head Coach?

This has been rumored before, but now it just seems like perfect timing, almost fate.

Jerry Jones as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys? Look out, folks.

This season is absolutely lost. These last eight games mean absolutely nothing except to see what your young guys can do, which is probably nothing aside from Dez Bryant and we already knew his beastliness.

This blog entry posted by our friends at the D Magazine suggests Jones should fire Wade Phillips and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and coach the remainder of the season himself.

This. Would. Be. Awesome.

This team has obviously quit on Phillips. It did some time ago, and last night was the crater below where the Cowboys hit rock bottom with their embarrassing loss to Jacksonville two weeks ago.

Like Tim Rogers said in the post, no one will actually relish the opportunity to coach this team for the rest of the season. And we already knew Jerry Jones wasn't going to bring someone in from the outside in midseason. And with the chance of an NFL lockout next year, he's not expected to go get one of the high profile coaches such as Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden.

I'll tell you, I don't think Cowher wants to coach in Dallas. Gruden might, but I'd doubt it.

Just picture this: Jerry Jones, on the sideline with a headset on Sunday at New Meadowlands Stadium, and the Cowboys miraculously rally around their do-it-all owner and beat the best team in the NFC on its home field.

Owner/GM/Head Coach/Entourage star/Boxing promoter Jerry Jones.

Do it, Jerry. It'll make me interested again. God knows you need that.

Fox would be a good fit. He has no support from Jerry Richardson in Carolina.

Richardson has raped him of all his talent and draft picks.
