This is my complaint too. Enough people have complained about it not being backlit that I don't understand why they won't just do it. It's total stubbornness on their part.

Ron just switched to the Literatti this weekend. He likes it a lot better than the Kindle! It's full color and backlit, both important enough features enough for him to make the switch. It doesn't do wifi, but who cares? We have iphones which do and travel with a laptop most of the time for work. He also just purchased a book on Kobo for $3 that's $13 on Amazon.
