Lionsgate hopes to get the biggest bang for its 3D buck by skedding the distrib's 3D Conan reboot for Aug. 19.

With this prime summer berth, Lionsgate said it hopes to duplicate the male-driven success of The Expendables, which became a hit for the company after launching mid-August this year and has grossed more than $100M domestically.

With two other 3D titles skedded for the third weekend of August 2011 -- Weinstein Co.'s Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World and Disney's Fright Night -- Lionsgate is betting that there will be enough 3D screens to sustain multiple titles in the format on the same weekend.

The 3D retro-fit tells the mythical story of Conan the Cimmerian and his quest for revenge against those who killed his father.

Jason Momoa stars as the title character, created by Robert E. Howard. Marcus Nispel is helming.

Can´t wait to see it and I must admit those first pics I´ve seen really resemble R.E.Howard´s version of Conan but John Milius, Oliver Stone (of all people ) and Arnold and also James Earl Jones and all those other individuals who were involved in the making of Conan The Barbarian created such a unique, awesome version or interpretation of the Conan character that any other team will have a hard time to compete against the first Conan. Arnold OWNS that character. And even he failed when he did the second part without John Milius. Say what you want about Milius but Conan The Barbarian is still a masterpiece.

And the music was superb, too.

Dude seriously needs to bulk up a bit.

Next thing you know they will be remaking Rocky for summer 2012...and I wouldn't be surprised if Stallone would be directing that.

No he wrote it only, he didn't direct it. He didn't start directing the Rocky franchise until Rocky II.

Well don't get me wrong, I love Sly, I'm a big fan of his, but his directing days are...well sort of over. Or maybe I got it backwards, his WRITING days are sort of over...I can't take too much more of those corny lines he has in his movies (The Expendables had way too many of those).

This will suck ASS!!!!

The first Conan flick was fantastic and they should have left it at that but oh nooooo....

There was Conan the Destroyer which, except for the batthel between the two wizards and the final scene with Dagon, was absolute crap.

then there was that Red Sonja bullshit and I'm sorry but ARnold was still Conan! Then there was that movie about Conan's daddy starring Kevin Sorbo, the dude from the Hercules TV show. Just a bunch of cinematic donkey piss.

One great thing about Netflix is the large collection of films they offer. You actually get a bit of a history lesson whenever you're looking for something to rent. Who knew James Earl Jones played a serpent king along side the Terminator.

this is more faithful to the original conan pulp stories, but it stinks so bad. The director is shit. I'm won't even waste time watching it.

Go read some "Savage sword of Conan" instead.

Will make a good Conan The Barbarian? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!

I read the Conan comics back in the day. Young (teenage) Conan was bigger than that.

I don't have high hopes for this movie.
