Need computer help! All of a sudden, my netbook desktop icons shifted right and my left-click is dead.
Anybody know how I might fix this?

Questions.
What OS are you using?
Is it the touch pad on your computer or has mouse connected via the USB lift-click gone dead? If it's the touchpad, can you find out if left-clicking will work with a USB mouse?

Turn off the computer, unplug the mouse, restart, plug the mouse back in. Right-click the desktop, select View, then turn on Auto-Arrange Icons and Align to Grid If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Thanks, TD3!
It's Windows 7 Starter and it's the touchpad. I moved the icons back manually and now the left-click seems to be working again. Weird.

You are welcome. Computers are sooooo temperamental.
Make sure your drivers for your computer touchpad are up to date and make sure Align icons to the grid is checked, to make sure everthing stays to the left.
Oh, right click anywhere on an empty desktop, click on View and you'll see the Align icons to the grid is checked or not.

Go to Computer Panel into Device Manager and look under Mice and other Pointing Devices. Click open the + sign and Right Click on the Touchpad device and Uninstall the Touchpad device and restart your computer: after that see if need to update touchpade software, if this doesn't work we'll try something else.
Something else.
Shutdown your computer, unplug your notebook power cord, and remove your computer battery for 3 minutes. Reinstall your notebook battery and connect your power cord. Crossed fingers this will solve your issue.
If it doesn't try than try this . . .
You may have to use your keyboard as mouse pointer unitl you can figure out what the problem is, this is how you do it.

Thanks again, TD3! It looks like it might've just been a physical problem with my left-click button. If so, what are the odds that this would happen at the exact same time as the desktop-icons-shifting-right thing.
Anyhoo...working for now!

Glad to hear it's fixed. You should make sure to verify and repair permissions now that you have updated your system. It also would be a good idea to zap your PRAM and/or NVRAM prior to permissions check. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I have no idea what this means, but thanks!

P.S. I didn't update my system.

With the PRAM and NVRAM, you hold a combination of keys down on reboot to re-flash these little caches. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's a PC. | |

Ace, you gotta look into it. It's basic toaster maintenance. Take the BREAD out and unplug for 7 hours. Make sure your FYNGA is well and truly connected to your ASS. That way we can help you, even if we don't understand or actually READ what your problem is. Prince M&M people are as mad as a bag of sparrows. Fact.

I thought you were going to say, pack it back in it's box and take it back to the store

Well, fuck it then. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
