Things people say that irritate you? When people say "Whatever that means"? When they know damn well what it means!
Do you remember lying in bed
With your covers pulled up over your head?

Most of the English language. (The others would annoy me, too, if I spoke them more fluently.) |

Not a phrase or word, but when someone tells a story about something that happened to them and they feel they need to specify someone's race in the story, but there's no reason to. Like: "...then the nurse, this really nice black/hispanic/asian lady took my blood"
I guess a lot of people do it out of habit or may not mean anything by it but I always put the person on the spot and ask what that part had to do with anything.

Quantified with "really nice", of course. Totally agree with this one. |

I edited above (as usual ) to say that I guess folk don't always mean anything by it...it just irritates me.
And yeah...whenever they feel they must specify the race and start up with "really nice" that shit sends up flags for me. |

They may not mean anything by it conciously, but it does mean something. Like, if they said, "really nice lady", are you going to follow that up with, "was she black", or "what color was she"? I'm thinkin' no. |

I just for some reason pictured that. Like badgering someone. What color was she?? What color??? Well she had to be a color. What was it??? |

But what if you know a lot of examples and only name a few? This one and "whatever that means" would only bother me if a person were to say them too much. Ya know, like, some people just make a saying their own personal catch phrase and use it all the time. That annoys me. |

Also, when people say "Not for nothing."
It doesn't really irritate me exactly...it's just that I have no idea what it means. |

My aunt says "I love you passionately", "you know I love you passionately", "I love my children passionately", "I love you both passionately. I cant wait to see you"
I know it's a positive thing. I just find it... |

depending on where you live there is a difference between a black nurse and a white nurse
but i live in the south
but seriously i think it just gives people a mental picture of the story.

Way overused here. But I think we're just trying to keep it as our own. I thought for sure it would go away after the No Doubt song stole it. But nooooO! Still here.
