New James Bond Movie in 2012?

November 5, 2010

Bankruptcy filings reveal that MGM hopes to release its next James Bond movie in 2012.

The studio, which named Spyglass Entertainment co-toppers Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum as co-CEOs, plans to own 50 percent of Bond 23, out that fall, with a partner paying all of the production costs, according to Bloomberg News.

It then plans to release a new Bond movie every second year thereafter. MGM plans to wholly own and fund those.

The company also said through bankruptcy filings that its obligations to The Hobbit are between $265 million and $275 million. Its investment stake is $40 million, and the rest will be funded by a lender, Bloomberg reported. Costs and ownership are being shared equally with New Line.

It's a continuing confusing mess and I won't believe ANY of it until there's a finished movie being advertised.

It's ridiculous that Bond 23 has this kind of financial trouble. Ridiculous, really, we're talking about the longest and most successful film saga of all time...

Anyway, this could work artistically, I mean, Casino was pure gold but Quantum left many viewers cold and confused (not me, I heavily enjoyed Quantum), so Bond 23 could work as a comeback for Craig or something, a third strong film after a second one which was not well received (overall)...

I just hope that Craig doesn't give up, like Timothy did, waiting for a third film that never came...

Hope it's early 2012 since the world is ending that year

Although I know a lot of people don't, I actually prefer Quantum. nod The last act of Casino Royale felt slow then and completely drags now (everything from the point Vesper leaves his room for the last double cross). Also, I love that Quantum is an ACTUAL sequel with a no holds barred pissed off James Bond. It just worked for me.

Anyway, I read that Craig is still very interested not that long ago. I'd guess that has something to do with their plans (hopes!) to release one every other year.

Still, until The Hobbit or Bond 23 are actually DONE and being distributed to theaters I'm not getting excited. Plenty of studios have spent tens of millions of dollars on projects that get cancelled before they're finished or just never see the light of day. MGM has made such a mess of this that I just can't believe everything is all shiny happy now.

I'm sorry. I don't have anything interesting or insightful to add. I read that a couple of times but none of it registered. I was too busy drooling over Daniel Craig. drooling

That's unfortunate, because Daniel Craig's two entries are better than any of Brosnan's.

biggrin

Well, Goldeneye, was pretty cool. I haven't seen Die Another Day. The other two were just so-so to me.

I hope it happens, but the story just a few weeks ago was that the project was dead.

Maybe MGM actually got a partner to pony up all the cash. I hope so 'cause Bond was getting good again.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I think I like Goldeneye more than Craig's installments thus far, but it's a close call! I agree with you 100% about all the other Bronan movies, though.
