dieting tips

Lately I have been "putting it on" a bit b/c...well i assume, school & family deaths. But the thing is I don't like this at all. I want to lose a few pounds but keep it off. I always end up eating more than what I really need. Does anyone have any tips for me? I'm being sincere.

DON'T diet!

Try and eat as much whole, natural food in season as possible (wholegrains, fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts) and cut down on highly processed food.

When I went to uni I ballooned from my normal weight up to 16 stone. It took 'me years to get rid of it and he secret is sacrifice a perseverance...breaking a barrier. For years I would jog for weeks and give up because nothing was working...then I just had to get drastic. Cut my calories by eating just Snackajacks for lunch - 3 big one took about 100 calories, have a light tea and continued to jog...I actually lost too much in the end, I thought I looked great but photos prove otherwise.

It worked for 'me but it took willpower and ignoring hunger and I'd only recommend it to get a huge boost to a point wher you can b happy to bit a little on again and work from there.

Don't know how I stuck to it, must have been really unhappy.

Simple answer and only answer for weightless is eat fewer calories than you burn...simple

1. Clear your house of "trigger" foods (chips, cookies, candy, whatever) and stock your refrigerator and pantry with only healthy, whole foods.

2. Never go to the grocery store hungry.

3. When you feel the urge to eat, find another activity. Clean house, go for a walk, or engage in a hobby that keeps your hands and mind busy.

I'm not really a good person to offer tips, because i'm frankly shit at losing weight. lol

Chewing lots of gum helps me, as does always having a very large drink. If i'm hungry, I guzzle a pint of squash.

Failing that, drink vast amounts of wine, then throw it all up. biggrin

That's what was said about rice, and was advised to eat a lot of rice but didn't work. Now it turns out that rice turns into sugar and sugar turns into fat. confused

lol

when I was in college all I really ate was rice anf french fries because the rest of the food was so gross and I lost soooo much weight. I was also running around campus all the time trying not to be late for class. I need to go back to school LOL!

Put down the fork and move away from the table. smile Although not eating while watching movies or Tv is helpful-it avoids the mindless eating.

Also planning meals and snacks in advance will help avoid temptations.

I love french fries, but never buy any for home or make any at home. I have to go out to get them, it helps me not over eat my beloved fries.

I think if you cut these foods out completely you get fast results but I don't think it's sustainable or even that desireable to eliminate any food because you start to crave it. That's what I meant when I said "DON"T diet". Just manage their use thoughtfully.

Don't have pizza with a side of fries and garlic bread and cola at lunch, then macaroni and cheese and 3 scoops of ice cream with chocolate topping for dinner. When you start stacking them up is when they hurt you. As an occasional one off by themselves where the majority of your diet is wholefood, you don't have to deny yourself.

Have the pizza with a salad

Have the fries as a side with grilled or steamed fish and veges

Have the garlic bread with a bowl of soup

Pour the cola down the toilet where it belongs (or if you must consume it, mix it with some rum razz ) and only have one scoop of really really expensive good quality ice cream instead of half a tub of plain brand crap.

I rarely eat white bread because there is little nutritional value but I eat wholegrain or rye bread.

I rarely eat french fries or potato chips because they leave me feeling greasy but now and then (maybe once a month) is no big deal.

I think pasta is brilliant and versatile and quick but I tend to go with a tomato based sauce with lots of vegetables rather than cream or cheese based sauces.

Another thing - drink a lot of good quality water. Sometimes thirst is disguised as hunger.

I agree. Brown rice, whole grain pasta, potatoes in moderation. And they are good calories. You do need to eat to lose weight - be sure to eat enough. 1200-1500 calories a day?

Eat more often, four or five times a day, but only eat good stuff, and exercise more. You need to raise your metabolism. If you don't eat enough your metabolism will slow down so much you'll regret it terribly as you get older when you can't eat so much as a cracker without piling on weight. You can take L-Carnitine as a supplement to help your body to use more fat for energy.

Also, think more about getting fit and building muscle rather than dieting or losing weight.

yep, that's a key element; cut down on the carbs and increase proteins. You will increase muscles whcih in turn burn more calories. That will also help to lose fat....
