Positive black male images in hollywood are far and few between but they exist and there are more coming, keep the faith.

They do, despite their rareness. I agree. The problem to me is that -- whenever there's a movie that seems aimed for black women and has major studio backing and distribution -- The Color Purple, Precious and For Colored Girls come to mind -- they all feature storylines that overwhelmingly paint black men as weak, abusive, philandering villians.
It's like the formula for such big movies is to demonize brothers. I'm all for celebrating the sisters. They have stories to tell, and I know many of those stories entail mistreatment by men. I also know, from life, they include stories that feature men sacrificing to make things work and to support them.
My hope is we will be able to be a part of those cinematic success stories -- not just serve as the foils or villains of the big-ticket blockbusters. | |

It's a shame Mario Van Peebles is relegated to directing an episode of "lost" LOL. Not a bad actor either.
Best known for "new jack city", but I liked the flair he showed in "posse" as a director, with its homages to Sergio Leonne. Big Daddy Kane was great in the film (and a debut aswell). Honestly he was LOL.
And "Gunmen" is a real guilty pleasure LOL, though he only acted in it.
I read somewhere that Mario said he didn't want to be another "Spike Lee" LOL. "Posse" gets bad reviews, but it's a fun movie though, and something abit different at least.
