George Lucas is going ahead with Star Wars 7, 8, 9

George Lucas is going to re-release Star Wars 1 - 6 in 3D starting in 2012 and running to 2017, then put out Star Wars 7, 8 and 9 after that. All three new films are in development. They'll probably be in 3D too. The rich get richer.

Why do people say things like "the rich get richer" in relation to this? He had talked about doing films 7-9 back in the '70s. And while I firmly believe that there are far more bad Star Wars films than good ones, it's not like he's saturated the market. He has a franchise he loves and that a lot of people love too...what's wrong with making more if he wants to?

From the rumors I've seen is these new star wars movies will take place a hundred or so years from ROTJ and have little if any Skywalkers in it.

George Lucas Is Not Planning New 'Star Wars' Trilogy

Oct 2010

A spokesman for George Lucas has denied reports that the veteran director will be helming a new "Star Wars" trilogy.

In an email interview with Wired.com, Josh Cushins says: "This is, of course, completely false. George Lucas has plenty of projects to keep him busy right now - including plenty of 'Star Wars' projects - but there are no new 'Star Wars' feature films planned."

Rumors of a new "Star Wars" trilogy surfaced online on Friday after IESB reported that an "ultra top-secret Lucasfilm insider" confirmed a new trilogy would follow the 3D conversion of the previous six "Star Wars" films. The reports led to varied reactions from fans on message boards online.

The source quoted by the site also noted that the new films would be sequels and completely unrelated to the live action television series that is being developed.

The 3D release of "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" is slated for early 2012.

Well, I want a Han Solo movie. His early days as an Imperial cadet, how he hooked up with Chewy, how he ran with Lando and won the 'Falcon in a card game. I think a kick ass movie could be made out of that.

I wasn't in love with eps. 1,2 and 3, so I could take or leave an additional three. That said, another rumor is that Australian actress Dichen Lachman would have a big role in upcoming Lucas projects. Should he decide to move forward, I'm certainly hoping that's true.

I am excited for sure. I am not a huge reader of Star Wars comics/graphic novels etc so have no idea what direction lucas will take these movies but i hope he straightens out the glaring errors he made in his recent offerings. Namely characters like Jar Jar Binks, who blew the top off the annoying scale. His casting of Hayden Christensen for Vader was all wrong too. Although parts of "Revenge of the Sith" confirmed in my mind that Lucas still has the capabilities to create another great addition(s) to the franchise, lets hope he isn't overly seduced by the power of CGI this time.

Why? I won't be seeing them. The only ones with any heart were the first three... Lucas sold his a long time ago. confused

Lucas sold out when he bought the rights to the merchandise even before star wars was released. George has always been bout the money and control. Honestly people don't look up to him cause hes some sort of artist he rehashed a mythology tale and put in space. nothing more.

It would be perfect fodder for an adult animated series if a feature isn't made. Ford could voice it.
