Singing

How often do you sing? Where do you do it? Whose songs really get you going? Do you make up your own stuff? Do you take yourself seriously or just do it for fun? Do you get embarrassed if you get caught? Do you have a good voice? Who do you most resemble? Have you done karaoke before? Can you harmonize? Is your voice high or low? Do you have a generous falsetto? This is for everybody. Not just the org musicians. Tell me everything you about your relationship to your own voice. biggrin

Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Alright, 1 by 1...

How often do you sing?
All the time!

Where do you do it?
At home, at work, wherever.

Whose songs really get you going?
Sinead OConner, the Cure, Patsy Cline

Do you make up your own stuff?
Yup! I'm often caught singing about what I'm doing at work. I'm sure I bother the hell out of my officemates. But whatevs.

Do you take yourself seriously or just do it for fun?
Mostly for fun, but sometimes I'm dead serious.

Do you get embarrassed if you get caught?
I used to manage a movie theater and used to sing alone in the projection room when I was setting up the films for the next show. I was very, very embarrassed one day when I was caught belting out the Cure by myself. redface

Do you have a good voice?
I can carry a tune, but I'm no Dolly Parton.

Who do you most resemble?
In high school I was told I sound a lot like Gwen Stefani...

Have you done karaoke before?
Yup!

Can you harmonize?
Usually. Some songs are easy, some are more difficult.

Is your voice high or low?
Medium. I don't have a big range, but I love to sing. I'm an alto.

Do you have a generous falsetto?
Not at all!

My favorite singing in public experience happened around 5 years ago. A girlfriend and I were in New York for the first time, we'd had a fabulous night out on the town and, being a little bit drunk, decided it was a good idea to take the subway back to our hotel at 3am. We got down there and discovered we were alone except for the rats. Feeling very jolly, we started singing. We sang Simon and Garfunkel's the Sounds of Silence in (what we thought was) perfect harmony. It was all echo-y and beautiful. After around 20 minutes, we came to our senses and realized an empty New York subway station was no place for 2 sassy young gals at 3am, climbed the stairs out of there and hailed us a cab. ahhh... What a night!

I have been known to sing and I have been known to tour around the country doing it while simultaneously beating the shit out of a guitar... do I do it well? I cannot say.

Do you do it much for fun, just going around the house or do you save it mostly for recording and practicing?

Well... I haven't toured in a while, so I only do it at home now. I still write songs, sing and play at home and I am going to have to put another and together soon... I need it.

Heavenly

I sing in the car, with my Prince CDs. and I sing at home sometimes, when I play the piano. but I try not to, because I always sing out of tune. I'm just glad I live alone. less embarrassments.

How often do you sing?
A lot of the time, but it's very fragmented - I will sing bits and pieces over and over, put together pieces from different songs - and quiet. Under my breath, so nobody can really hear.

Where do you do it?
When I'm puttering around doing nothing. Showering, cooking, cleaning.

Whose songs really get you going?
Prince, and just random songs by random artists.

Do you make up your own stuff?
No... I'm really not that creative.

Do you take yourself seriously or just do it for fun?
For fun, I doubt I'd ever do it seriously, considering my voice.

Do you get embarrassed if you get caught?
No, because I never sing loudly enough to get caught. redface

Do you have a good voice?
I can sing on key but it's not anything spectacular. Plus I don't have enough confidence.

Who do you most resemble?
Liz Phair? The girl from Sonic Youth? I dunno. lol

Have you done karaoke before?
Yes, Korean karaoke.

Can you harmonize?
I dunno?

Is your voice high or low?
Low. My regular speaking voice is low, too.

Do you have a generous falsetto?
No? lol.
I mean, like, where is the sun?

Do you take yourself seriously or just do it for fun?
It feeds my soul, and I have lots of fun.

That's cool... I have a lot of stuff.

The only thing that is readily available to download right now is my cover of "Hybrid Moments."

I will send you some other actual original stuff so that you can see what I do on my own... it is kinda like a cross between The Pixies, The Replacements, Weezer and the Ramones. smile

I sing as often as I can- in the car, doing karaoke, or just randomly! It is a wonderful form of expression. Too bad I can't sing very well. wink I can hit the high notes, but I usually break them in the process! I don't take it very seriously though, so it's all in fun.

i love singing. when i am by myself, i sing all the time. when there are people around though... i get SUPER nervous. Just ask anyone who knows me irl. i wish i could sing without getting nervous. i think i have a good voice...not american idol material or anything... but sometimes i hear myself... and i go DAMN... but then... when it comes to singing like that in front of people... cant do it. not really sure what that all means...but bottom line is... i love to sing. i love listening to people sing... hearing someones voice and how they use it..tells soo much about who they are...and where they came from.
