Washington, DC have personality? I compare DC to a Southern Belle...kind of quaint and pretty but a little tattered, tired and old-fashioned around the edges.

Oakland has personality, but not the friendly touristy kind of personality that, say, San Francisco has.

My new city is a 17 year bleach blonde with spray tan and 4 inch high heels and too much make up who's decided that once she climbs off the stripper pole, she might get into real estate once the market recovers.

The Gold Coast

My city is known as the city of sails, as after Stockholm, we have the world's highest per capita ownership of yachts per household and vehicles. Auckland, New Zealand has 1.4 million people and nearly 3.5 million vehicles.

What else

1. Auckland had just joined all 7 city districts into one supercity, with a supercity Mayor, Len Brown who is left wing and beat off right wing candidate John Banks

2. Its New Zealand's most ethnically diverse city, with 191 registered cultural minorities, the city includes some 23% of East Asian (China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam) ancestry and only 51% White New Zealander (Any one of British Descent).

3. It has the largest proportion of Samoans (Western Samoan like Apia not American Samoa), Tongans, Cook Islanders Niueans, Tokelauans out side of their country, in fact there are 12 times as many Tokelauans living in Auckland as in Tokelau, and 3 times as many Niueans. Maoris are also concentrated here, there are quarter of a million Polynesians in Auckland.

4. The city was only founded in 1840 by British colonists

5. There are over 100 extinct volcanic cones in the region, 80% of them were mined away in the 20th century

6. 40% of New Zealand's Population live in or within 100km of Auckland.

7. Auckland's unique climate ensures year around growing season, yet the city has never had a temperature over 32c (90f) or under 1c (33f).

8. Public transport is the worst issue, its overpriced and unreliable.

9. The motorway system is 50 years old, hence traffic jams are common.

lol I love Alameda, but once you get past the Gold Coast and the general abundance of Victorian homes it really doesn't have much personality. The condos along the Robert Crown beach annoy me on a regular basis. It's nice that life is a little slower here than a lot of the Bay Area, though.

what is your city's personality ? what is it known for?

atlanta is a very corny city......

i dont think it has its own personaility. because its to busy trying to be like other cities lol

I can empathize with you on that nod I believe if Charlotte, NC didn't have the Bobcats Arena, NASCAR, Bank of America arena, restaurant businesses increasing, and banks establishing a base here, it would be just another southern down to earth place. To me, it is trying to be another New York.

I think about 95% of the East Bay fits that description. But I still love it with all of my cold grey heart. lol
