Did anyone try the Paleo Diet?

Is that just a bunch of bullshit or is there truth to the grains thing, that lectin is a toxin we just shouldn't consume, and if we cut out all the stuff it says not to eat, wtf is there left?

You can't have NO carbs confuse

My friend cut out all carbs and yes he looked amazing for a little while, but then his hair fell out eek

This no carb thing basically sounds like a re-hash of the Atkins Diet from the 1990's.

I did Atkins faithfully then until I moved to Europe full time, and I'm glad I stopped because

1.it's not a reasonable way of eating at all because it's a diet originally meant for people with heart disorders

2. over time it screws with your liver

3. While I was able to maintain my high school weight of size 0, I'd rather have my kidneys and liver, be able to indulge in red wine and chocolate, just swap whole wheat for the refined white stuff an run around the block a few times to keep the excess weight off. The fact of the matter is that as I grow older I am now simply a size 4-6 and it is what it is.

I wouldn't try it. Too restrictive and you spend too much time worrying about what you can't eat. Mid-life is not meant for worrying about what you can't have for lunch...unless you live in L.A. or Miami Beach wink lol

My interest in this diet has been is not necessarily to lose weight though, it's more to do with a theory that lectins is now suspected in a range of auto-immune disorders - I saw an ad on TV that that it was breaking news on a current affairs program. The Paleo diet is not new, and lectin was discovered in in 1880 or something, but only now they are linking it to our diets so high in grains.

The idea is that dried beans and grains are not really edible for humans.

A few years back, I went to the doctor a few times, even had a gastroscopy and biopsy of my duodenum. Something isn't right in my guts, my villii show chronic inflammation. I cut out gluten - did an elimination diet, but I didn't try cutting out dairy, soy, nightshade and pulses. I would like to know if I would feel better if I didn't eat those things.

I am not particularly fussed about my weight, or being thin, but I WOULD like to know if I could live a life without immodium in my handbag.

Humans are very adaptable. Obviously, primates in Africa have a largely vegetarian diet. The question is how much we are eating. When you move to a high protein diet with exercise, you frequently end up eating less calories than a high carb diet with exercise.

As far as your intestines, I don't want to get your hopes up, but I saw some special about how there are sometimes worms/parasites in the body that bring on various ailments. Targeted antibiotics seem to help in those cases. Might be something to at least read up about.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Okay - first, a paleo diet is not a "no carb" diet.

Basically, if you are eating paleo, you do not processed food. At all. Think "hunter/gatherer." You can eat anything that can be hunted or gathered - nuts, vegetables, meat, fruit. No cultivated grains. (Wild rice is fine - but that's a grass that grows wild.) No dairy. Acceptable fats are olive oil, butter, and animal fats - lard (though only non-hydrogenated), goose fat, beef tallow, etc.

It's a hard diet to stick to for very long because it takes a tremendous amount of work. You have to make everything from scratch and your choices are limited. You also get very hungry because this diet tends to be very low in fat, too.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Proteins, Veggies, Fruits (in moderation). Thats been my diet the last 4 years (up until now) and I'm stickin' to it. Nothing processed, and if it has more than 4g of sugar (this is not counting fruit) then forget it.

I was never healthier than when on this diet, and I felt/looked great, and with excercise had a rockin body.

I can DEFINETLY feel the difference overall since I stopped.

I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure
I layed down with love and I woke up with lies
Whats it all worth only the heart can measure
It's not whats in the mirror but what's left inside
