This may be blasphemous, but...
Ladies, do you all ever get sick of bags? I LOVE a goodlooking handbag (I buy more for my wife than she buys for herself), but I find those with really outstanding design few and far between. And besides, if I were a woman I'd imagine always toting a bunch of stuff around would get old, no?

i have a totally declutted handbag, but still so heavy!.. everything in it is essential
Now see THAT'S the part that stumps me. If you don't mind, tell me, what heavy "essentials" must you have on you at all time? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I’m actually in a bit of a bag slump. I’ve been looking for a new, medium-sized purse for about 6 months now and I can’t find ANYTHING I like. I have a storage tote full of bags. Normally I love all kinds of them. I don’t buy high-priced stuff but I’m still a bit of a collector. But now when I really need something new, every bag I find either has a name brand splashed across it (which I find really tacky – sorry to those who love coach, it’s just not my thing) or it looks like a “mom” bag (I may be 35, but that’s just not my style).
It’s really frustrating.
I sort of understand... as much as a guy could, I guess. I occasionally can go for smart bling, but I'm also getting rather bored of designer IDs sprawled across handbags -- and if I see one more tired interlocking letter logo, I may go mad . And yet, you're right, the ones that are designed to be less flambouyant seem to be downright... I dunno... frumpy. There's gotta be a cache of chic, yet understated, bags out there. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Right now, I'm all about Louis Vuitton (after not feeling them for quite awhile), Christian Dior, and, of course, Gucci.
I'm getting this one as my bday gift in December, but then again, Prince will be in NYC the week of my bday so I'm on the fence if I should get the bag, go to NYC, or BOTH. Especially since last year I got the same bag but in a different color and finish for my birthday. Lawd, I have a problem and I don't want no help.
this is nice & u cannot go far wrong with a black bag. b-b-but this has a padlock! what do u do when the phone rings? i always have trouble getting mine b4 it rings off & that is when it's stored neatly, no padlock/zips!
I don't use the locks. Just decorative but they do function and come with keys. |

I'm not normally a fan of Louis Vuitton (and that's putting it mildly ) but I really like this bag. I've been admiring it since you posted it the other day. lol.
I've never been a big fan of LV either. Never liked the traditional monogram. My first LV was a bagpack in this same material and color without the glossy finish. Although I generally hate the brown monogram my next NEXT bag is gonna be a traditional speedy with handpainted stripes and my initials. That makes it more unique IMO. |

One of my fave clutches, I got it in this color and black patent. I got a shit load of Gucci bags. I need to get rid of some of them.

Most of my shoes and bags are some kinda patent. |

I used to love Coach. I bought my first - a Dinky Bag (that's actually what the style was called) - when I was in college. I still have it - beer stains and all. And I have several other vintage Coach purses from the years when they were still made in New York and actually worth buying.
But I hate them now. I hate that awful logo. I hate that, if I buy a Coach purse, I'm nothing but a walking billboard. (They oughta pay me for that.) I hate the fact that they're no better made than any of the other crappy bags out there - and yet, they cost an arm and a leg.
I bought my last Coach purse in 1993 and I doubt I'll ever buy another. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Not really into spending obscene amounts of money on anything really....the payoff, to me, is not worth it. Plus I experience a serious buyer's remorse most of the time.
I do, however, LOVE all things Michael Kors. |

Speaking of "Queen Tangerine," I am getting this bag, one way or another...

A former colleague of mine is one of the founders of Bag Borrow or Steal (the bag rental company mentioned in Sex and the City). She told me awhile back that handbags are definitely ruled by the law of diminishing returns. Over $700 bucks or so, you really don't gain anything in terms of quality. All you're paying for is a nameplate. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

No you don't, chile! Do you and what you like. I'm really conservative so I like simple bags that I can carry for 20 years. Same for my clothes and shoes. I'm not very trendy.
And damnit, that's the way it's supposed to be! People forget that shoes and bag really do fall under the catagory of craft...it's a really serious form of artisanship, and for the really upmarket items they really are created with longevity in mind, to be used as signature pieces...to be carried for a lifetime. That's why they got license numbers and lifetime warrant-tees. That black Louis for example; you'll be able to carry that bag for the next 15 years, down any street, in any corner of the world, during any season of the year into a business meeting or through the lobby of a hotel resort and you will look classic and like a woman of the world. When it comes to trends, they're only meant to last a short time, and what flies in one city doesn't necessarily fly in another; people who fall prey to trends end up looking like desperate out of place fashion victims once you board them on a plane and get them into a different time zone
Lemme ask you: do you own a DVF warp dress? I could see you in a Diane Von Furstenburg wrap dress for some reason...but a sleeveless one . on a nice warm Texas day, that could be cute on you. Shows off the ta-tas, but falls softly on the hips. Then you throw on a pair of them stilettoes and the bag of choice
Yes. That's why it pays to buy classic, good shit. That black LV is a prime example. Like Ott said, SCNDLS can carry that bag fo the next 15 years and still be in style.
I have a Coach bag I bought back in 1990 and I still carry it from time-to-time. Same thing with some black Farragamo pumps I've had for at least 15 years. Buy quality merchandise, take care of it and it'll last ions. |

I'm not really one for purses, but there is this one coach bag that I keep seeing whenever I go to Macy's that I'm in love with. I can't see myself dropping $300 for it though I couldn't find a photo of it, but it's a black and grey ocelot print shoulder bag. |
