I bought 2 coats (one brown one black) with fur trim that I thought was faux fur.

A few days later, I started seeing news reports that some stores were selling coats that were illegally sent over from China made with dog fur.

Checked the labels in the coats I bought, and guess what.....MADE IN CHINA!!! eek eek eek eek

I HAVE COATS MADE FROM PUPPIES IN CHINA!!! bawl mad bawl mad bawl

Anyhoo, the coats are cute as hell and I'm rockin 'em anyway hmph!

I won't let those puppies deaths be in vain. sad

Go ahead, call me a puppy killer. rolleyes Whatevs.

I also don't say this from a place of judgement because I certainly consume animal products I believe to be unnecessary. But I agree with NDRU, you are supporting the fur trade inasmuch as you've given money to a vendor for the sale of fur goods. Doesn't much matter how old the garment is -- you've demonstrated a demand for fur, and that inspires an ongoing supply.

It boils down to what you are willing to present in public (somewhat regardless of your actual intent) and how you feel about it.

This is true.

So hopefully mine is not a puppy fur coat.

That would suck.

I completely respect the movement against fur. But let me just say outloud that that unstuffed stuffed animal thing pictured above would only look adorable on a 10 (or under) year old. If I saw a grown ass woman wear that at the store I'd get nervous and wonder where her escort from the "home" was and why they let her wander away.

I gave $15 to a tiny 80 year old woman, who clearly didn't want it anymore. That's hardly supporting the fur trade. lol

But regardless of that, I haven't worn it so obviously I'm not comfortable with it.

And I do wear some leather and do eat meat. I just think the fur trade is gross. But I do give the oder gennie a break though as it was just a way of life back then. I hold no ill feelings towards the little old lady that once wore it.

Tough call. Would people be able to tell right away that it's vintage? If so, then I think it's definitely okay to wear -- people will know that it's old. My mom has a rabbit fur coat from the 80s that I kind of want to bring to NYC. But it's beige/tan colored, I would prefer black. Also, I don't really think it's stylish enough to look vintage so I'm hesitant. My thoughts are, the animal is already dead, you can't change that. But as a disclaimer, I grew up on a farm that included livestock, so dead animals don't really tug at my heartstrings. lol

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Let's face it, in this world you'd get less flack for wearing the tiny carcass of the 80 year old woman as a capelet than any kind of fur. lol

Yeah, people actually pay money to see that sort of thing in movies. It's "entertainment" to a lot of people.

If it has the legs and tail, I would think it was old/vintage. Do they even leave the legs and tail fur on these days? I saw someone on the bus in the Upper East Side with a fox stole -- the head clipped onto the tail part and its four legs were drooping down. The whole thing was sort of odd to me -- I mean if you have a vintage fox stole why are you on the bus. Very New York. In NYC, you also see men wearing full length furs, which I think looks so funny.

No, it's old. I can tell by the material on the back. I think my grandmother had a stole with a head of some sort.

I wonder what my mom did with all that stuff when she died...
