American Football vs. Rugby?

With all the hoopla over "illegal hits" in the NFL, I was watching Invictus the other night and I'm impressed by the amount of punishment Rugby players endure. So it got me thinking as to which type of player is the toughest, and how the two sports compare.

So of course I decide t post it on the Org.

Would American Football payers be able to handle a Rugby game?

Would Rugby players be able to handle an American Football game?

What would be the outcome of an NFL team pitted against a Rugby team?

question

Seems to me like American Football players are bigger & stronger, while Rugby players are faster and tougher (no pads after all).

Comments anyone?

Well in the early days of American football when they just wore leather people did get killed. How long are rugby matches anyway???

2 halves of 40 minutes...no stops or time out shit in between. Rugby is hands down the tougher sport...the scrum which occurs countless times in a game has been proven to be a potential death situation everytime it takes place.

Depending on the position, American football players are fast too.

Rugby for me, real men play that sport..not some padded up prima donnas. Plus, in the NFL there's too many breaks, it stops the flow of the game. A 6o min game last for 3+ hours? cmon man.....

I like the super bowl though, I love the hype it generates.

see... i don't get that. the game flows. 80 minutes of non-stop action with the same players on the pitch. I don't mind watching highlights of NFL games but sitting thru live games is tedious. 1 hour drawn out sometimes to 3. That is mind-numbingly boring.

I just can't see NFL players daring to play Rugby (either League or Union) a head on tackle with no helmets or pads? they just wouldnt, while i can imagine Rugby players feeling like pussies putting on all that protection.

Although I'm from the USA, my vote goes to rugby.

I used to play "street rugby" in the 4th grade of elementary school. Thank goodness none of the other kids OR myself were even hurt from playing the game. lol

I hate rugby...but that's probably because I was forced to play it and, unfortunately for me, was good and therefore forced to play for my school...I've now got a knee that gives out and something that makes me feel winded every now and again....and that was 15 years ago.

Rugby is by far, far, far the tougher...but American football is more showbiz - but I guess if it's a sport that rugby has got to be tougher

Would you mess with these guys

They are. I think Ray Lewis was accused of being involved in a murder about 10 years ago. So yes these guys you would not want to mess with.
