Does anyone here go to them? We love them. biggrin

When we were in Philly we went to State Penitentiary which was awesome.

In general I’m not a fan. I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to bloody gore and being scared by things jumping out at me.

But I really love the Haunted Basement that’s put on as a fundraiser for a local indie art gallery called the Soap Factory here. I went last year and this year and I can honestly say there’s nothing like it anywhere that I’m aware of. You must be 18 to get in, you sign a waiver and they give you a safe word – you can cry uncle and a staff member will escort you out of the basement - and it was cried some 300 times last year. It’s more psychologically scary and since it’s done by artists some of the passages and rooms are quite amazing.

I think the scariest was last year after entering in my group of 4 and crawling through a passage that got narrower and narrower we entered a room where people began yelling at us, made us face a wall while they did something behind us (I don’t quite know what, but that’s the point), then they made us enter this spinning-thing one by one. We got in (by ourselves), they shut the door, it spun around and another door opened - and we were released on the other side in complete darkness and utterly alone. I had to find my way in the dark. At some point I realized someone was following me very slowly, and it wasn’t one of my friends. At another portion we were strapped down to ancient looking wheelchairs, blind-folded and taken on a ride.

It was CRAZY.

If you youtube search for Haunted Basement Soap Factory you can find some interesting stuff.

Last year my friend paid to have her beauty salon turned into one. It was AWESOME.

She was standing at the door in this freaky costume holding a severed head and big scissors saying, "Wanna haircut?" giggle

The place was filled with fog and had sound effects. They were hiding in the stations jumping out at people.... ONe girl was crawling in the fog, so all of a sudden she'd grab your leg.

I was only there visiting, but I was dressed as Ms. Santa, so they made me sit slumped over in a chair when people came in, like they had killed me.

The candy was at the back door, so they had to walk all the way through the shop to get it. lol

That sounds like fun. I think my favorite kinds are when you enter a room and it's pitch black. Then they turn on a strobe light (kind of blinding) and a monster comes toward you through the strobe light -making you back a way-into something more frightful then you could even imagine.

OK, I would go to that haunted basement for the artsy, interesting angle of it and the whole sensory thing, it does sound fun...but there's 2 things I generally do not want out of a Haunted House:

1) Intellect

2)Cutesyness

I want to have the shit scared out of me (without having to put my brain to work). I want to run for my life. lol
