Powerade is not giving me Power

WTF are electrolytes anyways???

I've been drinking diet powerade around the clock. Ususally I can't stomach the stuff, but its the only thing that doesnt' give me heartburn.

Well, it's not making me feel any kind of energy.

And I just read the bottle theres not even any caffiene in it!!!!!

What is this shit actually supposed to do for you???????

I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure
I layed down with love and I woke up with lies
Whats it all worth only the heart can measure
It's not whats in the mirror but what's left inside

Powerade is not an “energy drink”. It’s meant to be rehydrate you. Electrolytes are vitamins and minerals that help your body process and “use” water better.

With artifical flavors, artifical sweeteners and vitamins and minerals added. But yes.

If you're doing a lot of cardio, you'll lose alot of your electrolyes through sweat, so fluid replacement is a must. Just plain water will do the trick, but if you're doing a long run of six miles or more, you can supplement it with a gel called GU. I usally take one before my run and another after six miles. I used to use this brand:

Now I use Hammer Nutrition which uses more natural ingedients. Be warned though, gels doesn't feel pleasant going down the throat, so always chase it with water or a sports drink.

It's NASTY!

I tried gels and fruit chews when I was training for my long race. They're all really gross. But it IS necessary to get some calories and in you and help hydrate with the electrolytes when you're doing heavy exercise for that amount of time.

Be careful and not drink to many of the powerade gatorade type drinks.. they also have sodium which is not good for pregnant ladies! Btw, GU is nastay! The sport jellybeans are way better but for me hard to eat as im running... You also dont need to use any thing to replenish your body unless you are running over an hour...

I recommend drinking something else than Powerade during the pregnancy and after birth when you're breastfeeding, because many of the flavors of Powerade (at least the yellow, orange and red ones) contain Azo food coloring, which can be harmful according to British research. There was a report in an Icelandic newspaper recently about a mother who drank a blue Powerade which lead to her breast milk being green! eek

Here's a follow-up story about the incident (in English):

OMG really???

Thanks.

Yeah, I usually can't stand the taste of this kind of stuff. I only ever drink water, coffe, or diet soda, but even water had been giving me heart burn. Todd had a bottle of this shit sitting around so I drank it, it didn't give me heartburn, so I've been drinking it since.

Guess I'll stick to orange juice from now on. lol
