Awwww.
I'm glad the people have care givers who actually want to be there. I'm sure it makes their lives a lot happier. I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure
I layed down with love and I woke up with lies
Whats it all worth only the heart can measure
It's not whats in the mirror but what's left inside |

Out of all the things I said about how much I love my job, everything the clients do and learn, and all the care we provide, this is my only quote:
"We love to pig out," DiViccaro said as she loaded the van with wheelchairs needed by two of the class members and diaper bags needed by all of them.
It's like he knows me! It's what you make it. |

Hats off to Punkmistress! It takes a lot of patience to work with the challenged. My dad did that for most of his life, and his students loved him. |

I was kind of bummed that he seemed to focus solely on their negative behaviors. We talked to him a lot about the other, more appropriate means of communicating and getting attention that they have learned, the tactics we use to redirect them from negative behaviors, and all of the activities they participate in. But did it seem to you guys from the article that all they do is poke and scratch people all day? They're really awesome people in addition to those things. It's what you make it. |

not at all. i was also struck a bit about how little dude was challenged not to disrobe i had a phase like that when i was little, i'm told. not the crapping bit, just the disrobing.
it must be challenging and draining to help children like that. but, you probably get as much as you put into your job. good for you. [Edited 10/22/10 19:01pm] |

They're all adults, actually. The person who likes to publicly disrobe is in his 40s.
You are right about me getting back just as much as I put in, maybe more. I feel joy and love every single day at my job; not many people I know can say that! It's what you make it. |

^actually, the article doesn't mention their ages.
It does say in the title that they're adults, but you're right; he didn't make that clear within the text of the article. Anyway, no worries! I didn't think you were making fun of them at all.

It's what you make it. |

no i saw that, sorry. and then. i started thinking, actually that sounds like you get bruised. if you're being pinched and poked by adults. it's not actually something to laugh at. i hope no one ever actually gets physical? i mean, i was going to make a joke about how orking for attorneys wasa llot like that, and stuff, but then i realized it's not really funny |

well, to be honest i'm sorry i didn't do a better job of reading it first time through. totally missed the title bit. i only read the article, fast, and assumed the childish behavior bit was vecause they were children. didn't realize you are putting yourself in harm's way each day like that.

oh. heh. well, that is a long and exceedingly odd story. you would never believe me if i told you. it's both extremely funny, and kind of not.
let's just say this fellow is someone who has brought to my attention that i'm kind of an ass who is too critical and misses the point.
and, (i hate it), he's right. i did in fact, totally miss the point that you work with adults. glossed right over the giant, capital letters in the title and deduced from context that you work with children. fuck me. it's ouch funny.
anyway, it's a good thing for those individuals you work with that they have you, someone courageous enough to face the challenges they bring to your days.

"He enjoys the element of surprise,'' DiViccaro said.
I should add that there are nice needs to anticipate as well.
these statement leave waaaaaaaay too much for my current state of having my mind in the gutter Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car. |
