Ya, I guess on unattractive women.

I reckon guys are scared they might lust after a woman who looks young from the back, with long loverly hair, and she turns around and she's old enough to be their mother eek

I saw on What Not to Wear once, a lady they kept exclaiming "looks so young from behind!" when really they meant she looked so old from the front, and wanted to fix that, so she looked oldish from both angles lol

isn't this really about the stubborn refusal to accept the aging process?

not really

I'm sure some actively FIGHT the aging (with lots of $$$$)

there are also a large percentage in the couldn't care less basket, who simply don't change the look they always had

and those with no idea, who think it looks great and it doesn't

and those who actually look great just they way they are, long hair and all (like the lady around the corner)

Maybe it is when it comes to colouring your hair...but I really fail to see how hair length or style has anything to do with the aging process.

well, hair ages too!

when you're young and fertile hair is at it's peak in suppleness and shine

it changes texture as you age, and in some cases, thinner and brittle, so keeping it long can look scraggly when it never had before

the thread title suggests that keeping one's hair long somehow keeps you young, at least in the minds of some women.

it's more about admonished for NOT cutting it because of being too old to have it like that

Silliness.

But I admit that if my long hair ever starts to get all rat-ass looking...I'll cut it shorter (not short)...I'm far too vain to look like a hag without fighting it at least some!.

an

So here are a couple of pics of Dominique Browning, who the original post was about. I don't think the problem is the length as much as her refusal to run a brush through it.

I actually said I don't think they should have to just because they're young, but I think it was completely missed. lol

This is something I'll never have to worry about. Since I was six, the longest my hair's ever been is shoulder length.

I look terrible in long hair. It just drags my face down to my knees and makes me look old. And don't even get me started on the hassle. disbelief

And that's exactly what I'm referring to. Having the ability of recognizing what works and what doesn't for oneself. A lot of people lack that, and that's not a snooty bitchy remark, that's just the truth. Just because you want something or have always loved it on others, or think it means "youth" doesn't mean you should have it.

People get hung up on it this kind of thing, but they're perfectly willing to recognize they lack the skills for anything else. It's really no different than not being good with decorating or cooking. Some people are ok at it, some people are awesome at it...some people need to let others advice them or do that shit for them. lol

Totally agree. But not falling for fads, trends, advertising, or the BAD advise of friends and family is still very important in this regard. nod

Seriously?! Look at the scraggly ends on that mess.

And that hideous shantung suit in country blue is as out-of-date as the rest of her. disbelief

Dude. Hello! Ageing hippies? Bay Area? I'm a Dead Head and I know a lot of them. lol Her hair looks quite normal to me. The suit, I have no arguments there. lol

Brooke Shields is STILL not aging well, though. She looks rough.

I completely agree! I hate haircuts like these. They are ugly and messy looking and I don't find anything attractive about any of them. I have medium length hair and I know I will never cut it short.

yeah long hair does not look as healthy on an old woman, gray hair loses it's body--but keep in mind I mean

long=down to the middle of your back

old=60 or 70

And most importantly, I am not advocating a short perm! lol My grandma is 92 and has straight hair almost to her shoulders and it looks nice and age appropriate

Only sometimes. My gray is actually the same texture as the rest of my hair. Not brittle or wiry or anything else. shrug

I don't have any. dancing jig lol My mother is 60 and she doesn't have any yet, either. My sister (three years younger than me, but with much darker hair) is starting to get a few, though (I'm sure the kids have NOTHING to do with that lol ). Grandmothers hair went all grey, and then all white. hmmm I wonder if the yellow has something to do with diet/lifestyle, or if it's genetic?

It's genetic. My mom's is kind of yellow, but both of my grandmothers went white. In fact, my 94-year-old grandma (still living) isn't totally gray even now.

but I think it's about more than texture, it's a style. Long hair is a more youthful style, and like clothes, the older you get, the harder it is to pull off the youthful styles

yes, in this case old is not 40, but I cannot think of many 70 year olds that have beautiful lush long hair. I can think of some that have course dead looking hair though

My mother in law has a head full of thick, shiny, glossy silver hair. She wears it in a layered shoulder length cut and it looks fabulous.

It's what you make it.
