I have had short and long hair all my life. My mother made me cut my hair as a child. I had naturally curly, coarse hair and she had no clue how to do it. She told me I didnt take care of my hair... I WAS 5!! But anyway, my mom cut my hair herself out of books. Needless to say, I had awful lopsided hair. One day I'll show the pictures....one day....

So once I was allowed to grow my hair around 12 I swore I would NEVER cut it. Well I cut it short when I was 18. Grew it until I was 23 and cut it short again. Kept it short till I was 26, cut it again, grew it at 31...you get the picture.

Ummm yeah you don't have to be middle aged. If you have a beeeee yooouu tiful face like me, you can pull it off. I've had super short, and super long. I like it short. It's neat, sharp, and it highlights my best feature. My face. I love short hair. You can wear enormous earrings and they aren't hidden in gadzooks of hair. Plus I like being different. Short hair is also far more work in keeping up than long hair. It's much more expensive. But it's worth it. Plus, my man LOVES it when my hair is short. I recall when I grew my hair and I went and got it all cut off again, I did not get much sleep the first week....if you know what I mean! ha ha!

I love short hair on women. If you have the face, then show it off!!

It is moronic. I think women that KNOW how to wear a short style and pull it off are that much more above the status quo of what looks good! And you have always been that much more stunning with short hair!!!!

What's the cut off age for men with long hair? Around 30? 35? It obviously depends on the person, their looks, the fullness of their follicles, etc - but even if a man has a wondefful, thick, lustrous head of hsir, is it ridiculous to wear it long at 40? Does he compromise any chance of being taken seriously? i can't imagine George Clooney with shoulder length hair. But Brad Pitt, aye, he could still pull it off. keanua Reeves springs to mind. He still suits it long. Philip Seymour Hoffman, not so much.

Every woman is different, so I don't think there is any set rule as to how long they should wear their hair. If you can have long hair, no matter what your age may be, be able to rock it and look good, I say, "Why not? Go for it!"

I keep my hair short (I swear it gets shorter the older I get lol) only because I tried growing it long when I was younger. It never looked good, since my hair is naturally curly, and is very thick, coarse, and tends to get frizzy once it gets to shoulder length. My hair just looks better short on me. But I wouldn't mind having waist-length hair, if I had thick, straight hair. I love long hair, and I secretly envy women who have hair like that.

This is my ideal hair length....6-7 more inches and it's mine!!!!! biggrin

And I don't believe older women should cut their hair. If it makes them happy and they can maintain it, let'em have it. I never liked "mom haircuts"...long hair is the one of the ultimate expression of femininity to me. Ladies..embrace it! But if short hair makes you happy..go for it. It can be very glamourous too...

There isn't a cutoff age for men, but there should be. I've seen some older guys who are in their 50's with really scraggly long hair and greasy ponytails which look like they haven't washed their hair in weeks. omfg no no no! disbelief

But the way I see it, a woman should wear her hair as long as she wants it, provided that she keep her hair in healthy shape. I've seen a lot of women in their 40's who wear the same hairstyle they had when they were in their 20's, but their hair is thinner and more brittle, and they have a lot of split ends. Now part of that has to do with finding a good stylist who knows how to condition their hair, but some of it has to do with health and lifestyle. For some of these women, brittle, frizzy hair is just the begining of other health issues.

I had a Latina girlfriend with hair just like yours, and it was very curly and went down to the middle of her back. Amd when she straightened it out to go out to clubs and stuff, it would go down to her butt, which I thought was incredibly hot. drool love horny jerkoff

And why does the alternative to long hair have to be a "mom" or boring haircut? That's as much a rule as saying certain women should cut it off. Who wrote that rule?

Long hair on a woman of a certain age who can carry it off can certainly look hot. Hair down to the ass on a face full of wrinkles is just witchy...yes it is. It may not be "correct" to say so (because everybody's beautiful regardless of age or style or taste and unicorns shit rainbows and all that awesome crap), but it is.

But if that's what makes someone feel femenine or powerful or in control of their feminine power, then more power to them.

<--raises fist up in the air in comradery lol

EDIT:

This applies equally (or more) to men and their damn ponytails sprouting off the back of a balding head.

Because a lot of people's main gripe with this thinking is not that it needs to be short, it's that it needs to be de-sexualized because women of a certain age are no longer supposed to be sexual and attractive. An older woman with a shorter, sexy and coloured haircut would be just as ridiculed for trying to be hip, young and sexy. It's the same with clothing. How dare she wear something that is any higher than just above her knee!

It's total bullshit.

I'm certainly not pointing that finger at you...but let's be real, that's the real issue people have when it comes to older women.

If I (personally) want to look "boring and desexualized," the quickest way to do that is to grow it out. That way, my uber-fine hair can get nice and scraggly and flat. Oooooh...baby! Nothing sexier than that! lol

Well no, of course I'm not talking about desexualizing anyone. Anyone who wants to desexualize anyone else is a dumbass. I will always vote for SEXY. nod

What I'm trying to say is quite the opposite. I'm referring to someone who may be misguided into thinking something like long hair or a shorter skirt makes them hot and sexy, when it could in fact be just making them them look older and desperate.

I also don't necessarily think of these things (style/fashion/makeup/decor...type things) as rules. More like guidelines and no one thing applies to everyone. My mom wore darker (not chola-style lol) lip liner and frosted or creamy lipstick to the very end (whether it was in or out, even when matte was all the rage) and it looked hot on her regardless. She never had a problem having guys think she was sexy.

I'm lucky to have gorgeous hair now and, going by the women in my family, I will have it when I am an old woman as well. Not every woman's hair gets all scraggly and thin with age. Maybe when I'm ancient I'll cut it shorter...but even at 50 or 60...long, thick, coloured hair is what I'll have.

You are lucky. A lot of older women who let it grow long may "feel" young (and yes, I guess in one's mind that's all that really matters) but in reality look older and like they're trying really really hard.

Long hair on old women reminds me of a witch. Just my opinion.
